If I ever have anything valuable on my computer, the way I will do it is this: I have two passwords. One of them lets you in as normal, and the other passes a few hundred volts through the hard-drive. Just tell the FBI/CIA/Mossad/Aliens the wrong password and -presto- no incriminating evidence.
1) so that's the way you do it, eh? could you please be so kind as to explain to me how you hooked this all up? i'd be interested in doing the same on my computer........ and i'm sure 10,000 other users would too
2) you'll notice they didn't ask him to "log on the computer" or anything... they just let him keep actual PHYSICAL backups he had (his "junk box".) and they just took the computer. i'm sure their engineers are able to get the contents of a hard drive without using the user's log in. shoot, even i can do that.
3) all that will do is fry the hard drive itself, not the hard DISK. you'll be amazed with the technology out nowdays what they can do, particularly since all the data is still intact on the disk.
