I just installed 3.6 and the FS2Net versions over a fresh install of FS2. I'm having some problems though. The FS2Net version gives a table error when logging onto the multiplayer server. FRED2 also gives a table error. Some table entries are completely blank! I haven't screwed with the tables at all, I just installed 5 minutes ago.

A few quick questions.

Are you using the HOTU or another downloaded version of FS2 rather than retail (Not that we care. It's just that things may be different with them).

What table errors are you getting?

Where are these blank tables located?

Have you intalled any of the media.vp files? i.e do you have any .vp files in your main Freespace2 folder other than these : -

# root_fs2.vp
# sparky_fs2.vp
# sparky_hi_fs2.vp
# stu_fs2.vp
# tango1_fs2.vp
# tango2_fs2.vp
# tango3_fs2.vp
# smarty_fs2.vp
# warble_fs2.vp

In the features tab of the launcher you'll find your command line. (It will look something like this F:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_T-20041030.exe -spec -glow -jpgtga -targetinfo -snd_preload -fps -max_subdivide -env) Cut and paste it here.

I have the retail version, 3 CDs in a folding case with a Deimos on the front.

The Fenris has no table entry. Neither of the Amazons do. The Elysium, Argo and Ma'at have none. VAC 4 doesn't have one.

My VP files are: mv_core_a.vp, mv_effects.vp, mv_hieffects.vp, mv_hiplanets.vp, mv_models.vp, mv_speffects.vp, mv_textures.vp, Root_fs2.vp, smarty_fs2.vp, sparky_fs2.vp, sparky_hi_fs2.vp, stu_fs2.vp, tango1_fs2.vp, tango2_fs2.vp, tango3_fs2.vp, and warble_fs2.vp.

I installed the FS2 SCP 3.6 and the FS2netd exe, but no other mods.

FS2netd says that I am using a hacked table file.

Hey Luigi, welcome to HLP. :)

HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS, now V3.0. Bringing Modders Together since January 2001.
THE HARD LIGHT ARRAY. Always makes you say wow.

rename mv_speffects.vp to mv_speffects.vpD.

Then see if it works.

If it doesn't, you might want to check the wiki.

Okay two things.

1) Remove mv_Speffects.vp.IIRC that vp was compiled before the FS2net code worked and as such breaks multiplayer. Instead go to the wiki and grab mv_effects_c. You may wish to grab some of the other vp files too as almost all of the media.vp files have been updated since 3.6 came out.

2) I'm still somewhat confused by your comments that certain ships have no table entries. Are you looking at a table file in Freespace2\Data\Tables? Or one somewhere else?

Kara: why remove it if we can just disable it by changing the extension?

Remove = one word. Rename the file extension = many words :D

Actually I usually advocate changing the extension but seeing as how the sp_effects.vp is pretty much obsolete these days you might as well get rid of it and replace it with the almost identical version on the Wiki.

Good idea, actually.

The 3.6 installer really should be updated.

I meant in FRED, but apparantly that's a bug.
