Macromedia Shockwave revisited...
I havent posted much of anything i ages, let alone anything relevant to freespace, however, when the servers died on us, I felt left without a place to speak my mind to, to familure members whom i can trust a decent arguement from...

right now in college, Im studying Multimedia Programing. Focusing on various fields in the areas of typography, advertising, games, etc., but the thing that boggles me is, the program most schools are teaching, is Shockwave. I know ONLINE that this format is almost null as a web platform (and my curriculum is aimed in a general MMP format), flash has taken over that job, i really really need to know why Macromedia still makes this format, still makes newer programs with it, and keeps updating the Lingo Programing language when all i really see online are Shockwave games here and there.

Ive done some serious good projects with Shockwave, but my hope is to use Flash, PHP, etc since im more webbased. but being as how im learning a programing language maybe as dead as the format its shown in nowadays (when was the last time u seen shockwave players being downloaded to your browser lol?), what is its possible uses if at all any... or am i wasting valuble taxpayer dollars on a dead program?

Shockwave seems to fade in and out of popularity.  I find it more annoying than useful because there seems to be a lot of browsers that don't have the plugin, and when you try and load it, nothing happens....

Flash is still top dog as far as I'm concerned.

Flash and Shockwave both blow as far as presenting actual information goes anyway. Fine for movies and games, but a real web platform would strive to properly integrate with the rest of the web.
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

Shockwave/Director is basically an Interactive Multimedia Application format. I.e. Promotional CD-Roms, DVD menu systems, etc.
