Best Final Fantasy soundtrack?
What Final Fantasy game has the best soundtrack in your opinion? My choice is definately IX. The whole OST kicks some serious ass IMO, and among my favorite tracks among it being The Place I'll Return to Someday, Feel My Blade, Mystery Sword, Boundary South Gate,  Place of Memory and The Dark Messenger, to name a few.

And what about you? :D

Best Final Fantasy soundtrack?
I only ever played FF7...
And that was a long time ago, so I don't remember the music. But I'd say it probably wasn't anything too special...

Never played any of them, and never plan to. There is nothing Final about them.

And don't bump. It's bad for the community.

Best Final Fantasy soundtrack?
Final Fantasy has the best orchestral soundtracks in the gaming world. My top three would be Aeris' Theme (FFVII), theme of Love (FFIV) and Suteki Da Ne? (FFX, non-translated). 'Suteki Da Ne?' is the only vocal soundtrack that was actually as good as the orchestral soundtracks. The non-translated version is better then the English version but not even by that far.

But those are only 3 out of the dozens of massively great soundtracks. Seriously, I listen to Linkin Park and Metellica in my free time but these just blow me away. Really.

Ow, and Tin Can, your negative input in this thread really isn't helping. Don't like it, stay out.

FFVI far and away, for Terra, Celes/Aria di Mezzo Caraterre, and Dancing Mad alone.

Probably VI overall for an OST.

I like the orchestral soundtracks more though, the orchestral version of "Man with the machinegun" from FFVIII is great. The Black Mages soundtrack is neat too (I like the version of Dancing Mad in it).

Probably VI's soundtrack.  I also have a special vocal version of Terra's Theme.

Never played FF VI.

FFVII has the best OST's. That, or FFIX

Friend's of mine who have played it say that Final Fantasy 7 was their favorite from all of them. What sets it apart from the others?

8. No contest. My brother owns most of the soundtracks.

Sn Can:

I think 7 is overrated. It was pretty amazing at the time it was made because it was a good RPG that was 3d (well, pseudo-3d. 3d models on prerendered backgrounds) on a console. 7 was also closer to sci-fi than the games before it.

Who is Sn Can? :p

Anyhow, I don't think age would have anything to do with the game. I mean, Starcraft was great for it's time. It was all 2D and such, but although it has yet to stand against the latest RTS games, does that mean we should just cast it asside?

Sn is the symbol for tin on the periodic table. ;)

Anyway, I wasn't saying that its age itself makes it a bad/worse game. It's just that when a game does something new (The playstation let devs do more with the game, and not just graphics-wise) the novelty can make it seem better than it really is.

Anyway, FF7 is a great game but I think the games that came later were better even though they innovated less than 7 did.

FF8 (the only one I played) had some very good music, my favorites being "Tour of Dollet" and the music that plays when you are in the middle of a certain assassination... ;)

I think FFIX (PSX) just beats FFVII (PC MIDIs) which used to be my favourite, cos I finally got to play the former a month ago. From all I heard of the original soundtrack for VII though it sounded truly terrible on the Playstation. I remember they shipped a special version of Yamaha's XG SoftSynth on the PC so you could enjoy better music :)

For me, it's VIII and X that have the best music......but that's my opinion! :D

IX had some nice stuff, such as the return to the older version of the victory piece. It also had a lot of woodwind stuff, which I'm a sucker for! :D

FF6 for me, both soundtrack-wise and storywise. Terra's theme and Aria di Mezzo Caraterre are both excellent, especially once vocalized for the latest and orchestrated for the former. And story-wise, it's not in every story that the bad guy manage to destroy half the world during the game.
