What would you guys think of a 'fragmented' campaign story of sorts, where a campaign is actually played out over the long term, with an episode of the story released each week in the form of a single mission. Sort of like a soap opera where you get a bit of the story every week or something :D

Was wondering what you guys think. Is this really a strange concept or is it something worthwhile?

I think it's a neat concept.  The only issue would be how easy it is to plan out a long term story in such a way, and how to divide it up so you can get the needed work on time......

I like the concept, but i would rather have 4 or 5 missions all at once each month.  that would be cool.

Said yes to this a long time ago. Just as long as all the missions are good / mean something. It'd be pretty queer to download a filler mission for the week.

I was thinking (until my uber crash-ahhnialating anything digital on both the PC's, including my work for FA) you could go the other way, try a 24 style approach for a campaign.  The last day in Cappela springs to mind.
Sorry, off on a tangent there.  You could try make it a sort of mini Fred academy.  Have a very, very general plot (pilot in outer rim, post Cappela) and anyone who wants, adds a mission to the story, one after another.  So one week you have you saving the universe from 50 Sathanai (from one of our 'newer' members), and the next a simple, yet fun, escort mission.
Could work, but like Aldo said would be hard to organise, and of course like any other 'user-made' project any deadlines shall be overrun.  By at least 2 years by my reckoning...not that I'm pointing fingers (Hell, were all to blame).

*drools* that sounds neat... just lemme reinstall fs2...

[EDIT] if you do go through with this, maybe i could add a mission or two. i could dust off my FRED and show off my FREDing prowess.

I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta
