I've seen that some of you actually have it, from the lists on that game thread... so why not make a thread about it, rather than spam it there?

First off, WoW pwns.
Ok.

What servers do ya'll play on? And what are you? I'll start off:

Shattered Hand: Horde. Level 30 Undead Priest, Level 26 Tauren Warrior. Level 22 Troll Rogue.

It is indeed the best MMORPG i've played, even though it's still (somewhat) buggy, and half the features haven't even been implemented yet, such as language learning. The thing I don't like about it is how at least half of all the players are night elves, which cause an outnumbered Horde :p

For all those who do not have it: I pity thee.

same old boring MMORPG. Its like all the others, only with somewhat spiffier graphics and set in the Warcraft universe.

I'm have it cause my bro is a Blizzard fanatic, right now I'm level 8 Human Mage. Though I can forsee myself getting bored and leaving, just like every other MMORPG I've tried. Without a story to hold my attention, and the only goal being "get more powerful, get better stuff" I honestly don't see myself playing it for a long time.

The only MMORPG that looked promising, Mythica, they cancelled.

Level 20 Paladin on Medivh. Props to DC for having so many mid way characters. It's taken me more or less five days to get to 20.

Anyway, I think the game is ****ing awesome. Maybe it's cause I came from SWG, where the only good thing about the game was the player driven economy and character customization. (well and Star Wars, but Star Wars seemed to take the backseat for a lot of Galaxies.) WoW brings in ease, fun, great art and story.

Yes, story.

While not much has happened in the grand scheme of things since I've been playing (Five Days) from what I've seen, a lot of the story is actually in and of the world, for you to discover through quests, talking to the NPCs in places, and exploring. Warcraft has always been one of the richest Strategy games backstory wise, and WoW lets you tool about Azeroth exploring and seeing all the stuff you've heard about, which is coincidentally, only %10 of what there is to know.

Anyway, so far I've only been disappointed by the lack of detail put into character physical customization and the character models / textures themselves. Seeing as that's a physical and minor matter at that, it's not a big deal. The only other immediate short commings I've noticed is that the chat system is kind of cumbersome. A few bugs that randomly shut down the game too, although this has only happened to me twice, both in safe areas, so I haven't really got a reason to be angry.

As DC said though, more things are expected to come with better PvP /  Horde vs. Alliance stuff, as well as hopefully more story-centric stuff. All in all, I haven't had time to care about either of those things yet.

I was a Game Master on the MMORPG Legend of Mir for about a year, but during this summer the Staff changed over and got replaced so all player GM's got the boot :(

I also played Star Wars Galaxies but left as I really didn't have the time for that kind of game (It looked like you would have to level for about a year just to gain the skills needed to get a decent job on the game)

I've been thinking of buying WoW, anyone think its worth it?

It's worth five times it's weight in gold.

Err.. well, it doesn't weigh a whole lot, and I have no idea how much that is, but you get the idea. I think it rocks. None of that Galaxies "Need to grind/"play" for 40 hours a week for a year to be able to kill anything bigger than a Disgruntled Tauntaun" **** either. Battling in general is several orders of magnitude easier and more enjoyable.

A game in which leveling up and gaining access to better items and skills is its own incentive. No other purpose is present, such as "saving the world", "vanquishing darkness" or "reaching Monkey Island".

They are present most frequently in MMORPG games, though they do occasionally appear outside of the genre (eg. Diablo 2). Certain players, usually the smart  and discerning ones, have at times expressed a sense of disdain for such games, though their appeals to sanity are usually drowned out by the great unwashed horde, who are more than happy to kill Lesser Forest Goblins....for the seven millionth time.
