Lightwave -> Truespace troubles
Anyone else hate doing this as much as I do?
What my problem is, other than the fact that I never use TS, is that different surfaces get converted as separate objects, even when it is one solid object in LW. Layers convert fine (into their own objects, just like I intended them to), but any object that has more than one surface gets broken up by said surfaces (see attachment for example). Objects 8 through 13 are fine. Those are the layered objects. Its one through 7 that are pissing me off. What I want to know, is there any way to prevent this (without using only one surface), and if not, how the hell do I make them all one object?

Christ, TS has to have the most convoluted interface EVER.

Select one of those sub objects and unglue it. Then select the main object using TrueView (the one at the top of the tree), and just "Object Union" it to the subobject. You will find that the whole object and subobjects will have fused together into one single object. I learned that the hard way, when that happened to me in objects that i didn´t want fused together.
In your particular case, select the "Imported Obj_object" and unglue it of the main tree. Then unglue one of the subobjects in it, and boolean it to the "Imported_OBJ-object" tree. They will fuse together. All you need then is to drag the resulting object into the main tree.
Hope that made sense...

Btw, ALWAYS turn TrueView OFF, when you do the Object union. If you leave it open, TS will crash.
You´ve been warned.

Mother****er. Yes or No both do nothing. God how I wish PCS would take LWOs.

It's more than likely the same issue as using 3ds files in TS. The files are split up according to their smoothgroups. TS usually sorts out the max files, but the LWO's, I guess are an entirely different story... :blah:

there is a plug in out there for TS called solidifier, which fixes that problem.

This is total bull****.
I got that plugin, so it lets me union them, but unioning them ****s the mesh up horribly. It moves polys, warps others, or just plain deletes them, so there are big gaping holes in the mesh. That or it just up and crashes (no Trueview isnt open). I ****ing give up. I'm going to try converting it to MAX and try to get that plugin to work.

you cant boolean objects with bad geometry in 3.2. that includes 'flat' objects...

good luck... 3.2 is very buggyful.

oh, BTW, the solidify plugin doesnt work. ever.

Are you trying to transfer the UV Mapping from Lightwave as well Thorn? Just asking because the solution varies depending whether you are or not...

Lightwave -> Truespace troubles
Well, note that i use TS 6.5, not 3.2. Don´t know wether it has any influence, but 6.5 is more powerfull and allows for operations that you couldn´t even dare doing in 3.2.

My sugestion would be to unglue every subobject in that tree, and check them one by one if they are solids or not. Look for missing faces.
With TS 6.5, you can unite objects that are not even touching eachother, just as objects that are intersecting eachother. I seem to remember that with 3.2 you couldn´t do that.
Unglue every subobject, check it for solid state, and unite them one by one.
And if that doesn´t help either, rebuild the things...
