So I just finished KOTOR2.....
and it occurs to me - they really ripped the heart out of that game, didn't they?  It's like - literally - they scrapped the last half of the game.

And I don't mean leave open a sequel type cliffhanger, I mean just abandoned it; there are seemingly masses of unresolved plotlines (and I don't mean deliberately so; this is stuff you'd expect to be completed) there, even accounted for what I would have missed going through it.  I'd heard of the cut stuff, but i never realised how bad it was - there is a massive gaping hole in that game, and it's spoilt it for me.  For example;

Spoiler:

Why are you suddenly rescued by the Ebon Hawk?  Who's on board?
Why was the navcomputer locked out?  Why did T3 shock HK-47 when he asked?
Why oh why did they cut the droid planet out?  It leaves a massive quest-hole.
What happened to Bao-Dur?  Why has he got a hologram there?  And why do you see a confrontation between his droid and G0T0, which is left completely unresolved and makes the ending completely inexplicable?
Where did the entire team of characters go?  You see one survive - sort of - one in a hologram, and then bugger all.
Why is the ending so ****ing anti-climatic?  You get picked up by a ship, it flies away... and that's it.
What happened to the rest of the Jedi?  Are they dead?  If the handmaiden has become a teacher, then did she survive?  How?

And there's probably more......

The cut stuff does make for a much better ending. If you haven't read through it all already, do so now.

Spoiler:
Presumably, T3 (or another party member) is on board the Hawk and manages to stop it from falling into Malachor V.

Revan probably locked the navicomp, I think with T3's help, in order to prevent people from following him to wherever he went. And T3 shocked HK because HK was getting too nosy. Possibly he introduces something that prevents the droid from getting inquisitive again.

I think droid planet was a victim of the time constraint. It was, like, nearly done and then they had to cut it. Designer was vexed mightily, I hear.

I like to think Bao-Dur's dead, 'cause it's tragic and everything. Anyway, the Remote/G0T0 confrontation was cut because the HK Factory was cut too. HK has a dialogue where he hints at finding the factory making the HK-50 assassin droids as a subquest. Well, at one point he would interrogate a HK-50 droid and discover that it actually the mystery sub-level of the abandoned Telos military base. At the factory, he'd create or activate another line of HKs - HK-51s, I think - and use them to shut down the HK-50s. The relevance to the G0T0 thing is that HK would discover the two droids at a standoff and choose between them. He'd decide that he preferred the Remote to G0T0 and try to kill the 'fat one', but G0T0 would retaliate with some HK-51s - but they wouldn't be able to harm HK-47 due to self-preservation protocols, and would side with HK against G0T0. Alternatively, dialogue exists that suggests HK could side with G0T0 against Remote and hunt him down, promising to end his existence quickly or something.

Oh, and G0T0 was behind the HK-50 thing, I think.

Originally, Mira, Atton, Handmaiden/Disciple and Visas were supposed to go after Kreia (and fail miserably). The Trayus Academy map suggests that they would be imprisoned and that the Exile could rescue them, but at the expense of his personal power. There was also some awesomeness with Atton, Sion, Disciple, Handmaiden and Visas - real grizzly stuff.

And the ending is either you going off to find Revan, or chucking Kreia off a cliff and staying on Malachor V, which is even worse. Still, there were originally tearful goodbyes for Visas and Handmaiden, and even the possibility that the game would end with light banter...

Yeah, KoTOR 2 started out very nice..
But by the end of it, it didn't feel complete at all :blah:

This is just another example what pressure to get it ready for release as fast as possible does to a game.

It's a good game, make no mistake about that.. but it could have been so much better given more time. :sigh:

*proceeds to read on about what actually happened*

Yeah, I saw it.... before I actually completed the game, in all honesty.  I don't know if it made it 'worse'; but the gaps are pretty large anyways.

Apparently
Spoiler:

The droid planet exists completed in the code in terms of modelling but not scripting.  I think someone dug up a bunch of cut sound files from HK-47 torturing an HK-50, plus the end scene, too.

The Remote / G0T0 thing really rankles me, though; why did they leave it in if it patently makes no sense atall.  All they had to do was cut G0T0 - sure, it'd leave a gaping hole in the whole G0T0 character storyline, but at least it'd be a less obvious one than creating a cliffhanger that mysteriously self-resolves.

When first playing through I heard about the cut material. I think the game would have been fine minus the whole:
Spoiler:
"What happened happened to my companions when on the surface of Malachor V?" thing, which forces you to piece together what happened from events on the planet.

When seeing what was cut, it's truly tragic as this would have been a game ending better than Planescape: Torment's, another game that Avellone at Obsidian designed.

Obsidian has been talking with Lucasarts about a contect patch since the game was released for X-Box, adding in the content that had to be cut since it was released two months early for Christmas. (make it more like a 4 month disruption in the dev cycle since they had to rush the Q&A period for an early release)

So far Lucasarts has been very much against this, as they're spending all of their time on episode III games. However, Obsidian now has internal QA people for Neverwinter Nights 2 as the clues point to the Lucas Arts QA folks saying effectively "the game is done enough now to ship for Christmas since we have no Christmas games!"

Incidentally
Spoiler:

What the **** happened at Malachore V?  It seems like they used some massive gravity well to crush the planet?

So I just finished KOTOR2.....
Spoiler:
Bao-Dur constructed a device called the "Shadow Mass Generator" that increases the gravity well of a planet. It crunched Malachor V into a pulp and dragged the battling fleets down too. Some ships were torn apart into a ring around the planet, others became dead hulks (like the Ravager), and more still crashed on the surface of the planet.

Most of the survivors of the crash were twisted to the darkside since Malachor was an intentionally created wound in the force due to all of the death there from the activation of the SMG.

So Revan had an easy time twisting people to join him, like Atton, when he decided to betray the Republic shortly after the battle. Others like Bao-Dur and the Exile returned to Republic space to heal.

Y'know, I always felt that the whole ending was rather incomplete...I just didn't know that so much was cut out.
