Freespace 1 screen res
Hi, First post :p

I have been a huge fan of FS2 for years, but I have never played the first game. I have just bought FS1 and Silent Threat on ebay for 10 quid (Comes in a cool puzzle box) 70 missions of gaming goodness :D but is there any way to increase the screen resolution? I'm stuck @ 640x480.

The res of the skins is quite low as well. Any full mods for the skins?

Thanks for any help

Good god guys, where are our manners?  New guy and all.

Gunnery Control, target bliss000.  Fire!
:welcome:

Welcome to HLP.  Exits are to the sides and rear.  In the event of emergency, you will find a flamethrower under your seat and your cushion can be used as an emergency floatation device.  The flamethrowers are almost all out of fuel, and no one's really sure why you'd need a floatation device in deep space, but hopefully having them around will provide you with some small comfort.  In the event of a true emergency, there are pulse rifles and plasma grenades in the lockers up front, but those can only be opened by an admin, :v:, God, or a hyperintelligent shade of the color blue.

Feel free to do some exploring while you're around.  If you run in to a large, 5-limbed creature while in the ventilation ducts, set down your lunch and back away slowly.  If you're lucky, it's only our resident Shivan Carl, and he responds well to food rewards.  If you aren't so lucky, there's a very good chance that you'll get eaten/atomized, or worse, dragged into a political thread.  But it's a risk we all take.  Enjoy your stay!

 Thanks for the welcome StratComm!

I did spot the port onto FS2. My version of FS2 is the rip, no movies and I think it's stuck in the lowest res :sigh: Another purchase from ebay I think!

I'm not to bothered by the low res, didn't stop FS2 from getting into my top 5 games list

You can actually get the files needed to make FS2 run in hi-res (1024x768) by downloading them from the FTP.  And if you aren't familiar with the SCP yet, go check that out too. Both are in this forum somewhere; the FTP link should be at the top of this subforum, and the SCP has its own.

:welcome:

Glad you liked FS2! :)

Freespace 1 was 640x480 only alas, but I'm sure someone here may be able to point you in the right direction for a working FS2 download. :)

Edit : Stratcomm types faster than me by the way ;)

Is that your standard welcome-text?
It's very good (funny)!

A :welcome: from me, too!

This is the HLPBB-Borad for Freespace in general and for - TADAAAA:
FreeSpce 2 Open (Source Code Project).

FS2_Open is an very improved FS2 Version that provides better graphics and other features!
And, like said before, with the FS1-Port (available in this Forum, too) you can play the good, old FS1 in the new FS2_Open graphics!

Actually I made that particular welcome up on the fly.  Most of it is pretty standard, but everyone puts their own touches on it as they go along.  I've always wondered though if [welcome](Name Here}[/welcome] works, though.

EDIT: guess not.  But these do:

The FTP in this forum has all the files you need. My FAQ has information on how to use them.

Shouldn't we have a [karafaq]tag too?[/karafaq]

You actually wouldn't believe how many times I've had to hunt down your posts just so I could get a link there.

Does anyone remember the registry hacks to get the fighter skins up into high res mode? I guarantee they exist, but I have no idea where to find 'em.

Ok "faq" = faq is not something I expected the filter to do.  Doesn't seem to touch caps, though.
