So, in three years we find out exactly how crazy the various religious extremists really are. Hmmmm.

What the hell is wrong with that page?

Grey text on a white background? Methinks someone forgot to specify the default text color.

The real issue with this problem is it's a damned if you do-damned if you don't scenario. Literally for the religiosos. :p

Any strong leader who attempts a sane secular solution in the region will wind up being labeled the anti-christ by the parties involved, and thus would wind up destabilizing the region further.

Not if your default color scheme is grey-on-black. (Using my night theme here) They force the background to white, but don't bother to force the foreground color to something to suit that.

But Re: the article, I'm not sure what the point is...I'm not reading it as well as I could given the color scheme (and can't be arsed to switch everything to a blasting whit to read it). While I think religion is strong, I disagree that the western world has a "secular" view of things. When they say "Cultural elite", I can't help but wonder who they're referring to. Politicians certainly don't advertise themselves as committed atheists.

If the point was to understand, I think anybody can understand, okay, they're more religious than us - but until they actually talk to them, they can't really get that, and all the exposition is useless.

And I'm just plain tired of hearing people blame religion for the world's problems, so I really hope that wasn't the point of the article either. Good ol' human greed, stupidity, and simple misunderstanding will just take over to fill whatever void is left if you remove religion.

Edit: Changed a phrase as I wrote it.

You might get a few fundamentalists making a big deal out of this, but I highly doubt that the majority of Jews, Christians, and Muslims have even heard of this stipulation about a pure red heifer being required to reconstruct the Temple, which would bring about the Apocalypse.  I know I hadn't up until today.  Besides that, not every Christian, Muslim, or Jew takes apocalyptic writings literally.  I have the feeling that this is what amounts to much ado about nothing.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I've noticed a few pages doing that, I tend to use white text on a black background, but it can cripple some Web-pages which change the font to black, but forget to change to background colour :(

And Rictor, surely you can see how important it is that we find the right Cow, it's very very important to have the right kind of cow...
