bittorrent and satellite internet redux
So I'm still trying to download Cowboy Bebop. I didn't think bittorrent would be a viable option since my satellite ISP discourages any kind of significant uploading. After trying a variety of filesharing programs and being disappointed, I went back to using bittorrent along with NetLimiter to keep it from uploading quickly. I let BT upload for a while, until the download speeds were high and then turned on netlimiter. The upload went down to 1 kB/s while the download remained high. This worked for a while, but the download is now at 20% and it won't download OR upload anymore. I haven't changed any internet or firewall settings. I have the latest version of Azureus (BT client) and the Java platform it uses. I'm not running Netlimiter right now. So, an exasperated "wtf?"

Check your azureus connection settings under Tools > Options > Connection Settings

and also, how long has this been going on? It could be that just the tracker is temporarily down so your comp cant connect to get a client list.

The tracker is fine and... whoa... well, the tracker just now became not fine. A timeout error. I've been getting timeouts all day in Firefox as well. I'm now almost definitely sure these are symptoms of a bigger problem. It's not spyware since I just did a scan today. I'll try and figure out what's going on. Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
EDIT: the tracker's okay again but I'm still really suspicious. I'll post a hijackthis report.

bittorrent and satellite internet redux
I don't know what's going on with your browser, but I will give you my conclusion.  What I am about to tell you may shock you, but I think for the benefit of your own time, you should listen to what I have to say.

Bit torrent sucks.  Yes, I said it, it sucks.  The wave of the torrent system overwhelmed us all, and provided us with some great things.  However, the waters receeded and we are left with a post-tsunami disaster.  There are some pools of goods left, but they quickly dry out.  To put it simply, the Bit Torrent rave has come and gone.  It is time to look elsewhere.

That elsewhere is none other than the largest pool of data in existance, and it is very well untapped.  Yes, I am speaking of usenet.  This is where the real stuff happens.  You can find almost anything you want here, even rarities.  For example, FS2 is quite common in some groups.

This is the place I always downloaded animes.  I downloaded entire series in a matter of hours.  I got so many Naruto episodes, it's pathetic.  I got gigs upon gigs of stuff, all until it was licensed in the US.  CURSE YOU COPYRIGHT LAW!!  Anyway, if you want to find anything, if it isn't there, it isn't anywhere.

I suggest using Giganews.  It's quite pricy at $25/month for unlimited traffic, but it has 50 days retention.  50 DAYS!!  I also reccommend Agent.  I dont remember how much it costs (I dont use it), but it is well worth it.  Anyway, good luck.

right, but this time BT was performing admirably. I've downloaded five seasons of x-files with it before, no problem. It just farked up all of a sudden at the same time as my browser and I don't know why. and it's worrying me.
EDIT: plus newsgroups cost money. I'm still just a high school student and right now I have about $80 to my name, most of which will end up spent on gas.

the browser timeouts seem to be less frequent, but they still happen and BT is still slow.

If BT and firefox are both having problems (and started having them at the same time), then we must look at what they both use: your internet connection.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Firefox is doing pretty good now. It still times out occasionaly but not nearly as much as it was. I think my internet connection is okay because it handles normal downloads just fine. and again: BT was working fine a few days ago and I didn't adjust any settings or options.

Most probably your ISP found out about it and reduced your bandwith, wich is causing timeouts.
Throtle back your downloads, so you can have suficcient bandwith for the client/server traffic. Oh, and dump BT. The eDonkey network has always been the best and most reliable.
You can even find FS1 in it. And FS2, obviouslly.
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

That said I've downloaded 1-2 gigabyte files in only a few hours and you don't have to worry about needing the file to be well seeded. If the post is complete and your ISP is reliable then you'll have no trouble getting the file.

Well, on my mom's computer, which is networked with this one to share the internet connection, Firefox doesn't time out. So there's something specific to this computer that's messing stuff up. Oh and my mom probably wouldn't condone me illegaly downloading anime to her computer so using her comp instead of mine isn't an option.
