U.S. blocks call for Uzbek killings probe
Defense officials from Russia and the United States last week helped block a new demand for an international probe into the Uzbekistan government's shooting of hundreds of protesters last month, according to U.S. and diplomatic officials.

So, because they fear to lose a base, they block the investigation to the killings of hundreads? I expected this from Russia, but not from... uh, no wait, i expected this from the US too, to be honest.

Is this really a suprise? They both want influence in that area, so they both will do whatever it takes to lure the Uzbek government towards their respective sides.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Eventually, they'll get tired of Karimov, and then pretend like they're the great champions of humanity by forcing him from power and demanding he be brought to justice. It happens to every killer they prop up, sooner or later. Look at Saddam, bin Laden, Suharto etc.
