Remember this thread: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,32976.0.html

I was playing around with the vasudantalk.wav and I think I am on the right track in duplicating this effect. It doesn't sound exact just yet, so that's why I'm posting. Maybe the rest of you guys could play around and see if you could help me figure it out.

Crank up the vasudantalk.wav's pitch all the way up to 200% and listen to that. Do the same with your recorded voice and see if you can get it to sound like the high pitch version of the vasudantalk.wav.

What I do is start making different pitches of my voice and then mixing them with the original. Then I bring it back down to 50% and it sounds really close but not exact. I also play around with the equalizer to get the bass going right.

Can you guys help me figure this out?

Why don't we just get Raa to do the Vasudan voice work? :p

Try playing that file at 1.5x speed. You can definitely make out some kind of speech there; it might be possible to talk like that directly.

I have just made a nice method on how to make your voice vasudan. But I didn't do it in goldwave. I did it in Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I made a tutorial off of the stuff I had. It may not be exactly what I did but I think it will still come close to a Vasudan sound.

*****

Record your voice and use noise removal (on the lowest setting) on it. Remember to sound commanding whenever you record.

To do this tutorial you must do it in Audacity. I wouldn't know how to do it otherwise.

1Duplicate it five times and each time decrease its pitch by -1. So it would be 0, -1, -2, -3 etc.

2Blend them all together. (in audacity it's "quick mix")

3Copy it and past it into a new window. (in audacity go to file/new and the paste it in)

4Do what you did in step 1 only do it ten times.

5Do a highpass filter to the ten duplicates and do a lowpass filter to the first one. Do a quickmix and use amplify to get rid of the ear piercing volume points. Then decrease its pitch by -5.

6Copy it, paste it, mute the other one and do a lowpass filter on it, bassboost it and copy again.

7Duplicate four times and each time reduce its pitch by five percent.

8Get the first one on the top and do a highpass filter. Bassboost it.

9Quick mix and repeat step 3.

10Now bring its pitch up by ten percent (I think, could be only five).

11Copy, paste, mute the top one and decrease pitch by one (I think. This step you may not even have to do.)

12Copy, paste, mute the top one and do a lowpass filter.

13Paste again and do a highpass filter.

14Amplify the highpass and do a noise removal, with the lowest setting to less, twice.

15Raise the highpasses pitch to five percent up.

16Use amplify to lower the lowpasses volume down until it is only in the background but you can still hear it well.

17Raise the highpasses pitch by ten and amplify it a bit.

18I think that's it. Feel free to expiriment with these techniques and see if you can come up with a one hundred percent exact sound.

I recorded one and tested it out but I have nowhere on the net to put it anymore.

If you can't think of anything to say, say this: Krahfia hos taerfa, yu ya jierga.

:p ;)

Ask MatthewPapa for space on GameWarden.  I'm sure he'd be willing to set you up with a small amount.

But upload it somewhere and post a link here.  I'd like to hear it. :)

K, here: Vasudan

It doesn't sound exact, but that might have someting to do with how you record it. Or I did too much too it on my tutorial or I didn't do enough. I think if this method is played with we can get it exact.

That's some very nice work; it's about as close to the in-game speech as you can get without being exact. :) A few more clips like these would be a godsend for campaigns with Vasudan speech; I got so tired of hearing that same ten-second clip chopped up fifty different ways during Shrouding the Light. :p
