A Real Freespace Movie
Ive noticed some people are producing some nice Avis and Movies for their conversions and MODs of freespace.

For some time if been practising filming by orcestrating a scene in Fred 2, I.e a battle where the players intervention is not necessary for the outcome.

What I then do is to record it using my web cam, its rudimentary but basically I point it at the screen. With the aid of the stange and some time spent positioning there is no noticable quality diference, just a loss in the total size of the resoulotion. 1024-768 to 640 res. Once filmed the resulting flashing white refresh can be easilty removed from the frame stills.

Voila- Easy Movie

In addition I can fly my ship around in freespace while in filming it toi get the best shots in incoming jumping caps etc.
Sounds etc can be easily spliced in.

It struck me today, why couldent we use this method to make a mini-freespace Movie. Anyone with a web cam, or video cam could play a part.

Either way it would be entertaining to write a short script and see how it goes.

Anyone agree?

why not just get someone with a huge render machine and get them to do an hour long movie of it, with a bunch of voice actors

why do we need a FS movie? We have the game, thats all we need

Well, if I had a couple of FreeSpace 2 models in 3D Studio Max R3 format, I wouldn't need a web cam. Just make a short 2 minute Quicktime movie. But I think the overall size would be something like 10 MB or more i think. And that's without sound.

Where can I download the POF CS convertor?

I want a better title!!!

If you can make the exact warp out thingy, explosions, and weapons firing in 3d stupid max as in Freespace 2, then you'd be Uber-|_33+!

PCS is here: http://alliance.sourceforge.net/

For now, I think we're better off taking shots from the game getting different angles from a single mission. Although, it would be hard to choreograph something specific in FRED 2 and it would be hard to get the camera angles correct without having that annoying targeting thingy around your target.
