My Computer...curse you!
This is really pissing me off.  after three futile attempts, FS2 won't reinstal!  I had to delete for space a while back, and now that I have room again, I thought I'd put it back on my computer.  well, at this rate, it won't be happening.  the installation will only go up to about 56% before halting in place.  now normally I'd just intall manually by copy & pasting from the cd, but the VP files are compressed into a file I can't decompress myself.  frankly I don't know what the hell to do, any ideas?

well, it went to 80% this time before locking up.  I really hope I can get this up and running again.

Take CDs out of CD-Rom drive.... CLEAN IT THOROUGHLY(fixes many problems) and check for scratches....

and shouldn't this be in the freespace forum?

thank you for the advice DC.  as to where this topic should be, I figured it should be here as it seems to be more of a computer based problem than a Freespce one.  I checked the CD and sure enough, it has sratchs and a few...hardened liquid things...odd.  at any rate, I'll see about cleaning it, but I've never cleaned a CD before.  how would I go about it?  after all I don't want to do the wrong thing and mess up the CD even more.

The way you describe the CD, with liquid things and scratches... it might be ruined. My own FreeSpace2 install disk has a single scratch and its totally ruined.

What you have to do is send the CDs over to Interplay with $10 or something(it's in the manual) and they should supply you with a new copy.... Right now Interplay is out of FreeSpace2 stock, but on the VBB it was posted that it should be replenished by November... sometime around there.

The normal way people clean their CDs is just use their shirt to get off any dirt or fingerprints... but there's no way you can remove scratches(lost data in those).

   I'm sorry that this happened

depends how deep the scratchs are if they aren't all the way through to the acaul part where the info is recorded then the ifo is still there but probally knackered still unless the strachs are little surface ones that are visable but dont look like they are deep at all you know little lines that dont cast shadows =) if they jsut like that then you can get special cleaners that will fill in the straches witha  liquid that turns hard and clear and then your cd will work again

hmmm your never guess english is my first language looking at that - i really need to type abit more carefully and learn to articulate myself better hmmmmm but nevermind

Hurray!  it works!  I have FS2 back!           now I can return to doing what I love most, modding!  though I may not have the best work produced, something's better than nothing, and at least I try.  who'd have thought a game like this could keep it's popularity after 3 years?  I never would've, but this game is in my opinion, the greatest 3d space shooter ever!  it's moddability is outstanding, and with this great community to help others along the way, this game could last for quite a while longer!

Hey, top stuff! Lucky for you, my FS1 CDs were beyond redemption after two years of beating, so I got a new copy.
