The Chronicles of Riddick
Do yourself a favor and go see this movie.

4.75 out of 5

The only reason I can't give it a perfect 5 is because some of the scenes that are in the preview and were used in other promotional stuff were not actually used in the film.  Most notably the "energy burst" scene where Riddick uses some kind of mojo to bust up a bunch of baddies.

Also, let's try and keep the spoilers to a minimum till the second page.

But it would look beautiful in a directors cut :)

See, in there the director says he wants one...

Um, what was the point of the bump?

Btw, my friend went to go see it drunk on Friday and fell asleep at the end, lol.

The bump was to signify that I have such a high opinion of this film (pre-viewing) that I am willing to waste 6 hours downloa.....err.....paying to see it.

It's like a little sticker of approval.

If it kicks ass, it gets the full rubber stamp.

The Chronicles of Riddick
LOL, Anon. I feel your pain.

Is it really worth 9 bucks and change to go see? I saw Pitch Black in theaters when it first came out, and I was quite disappointed. That movie didn't make me care about ANY of the characters. It was more of a carnage fest movie where the only suspense lies in your curiosity of the many different ways people will die in it. Perhaps if I knew that RIDDICK was the movie's focus I may have cut the movie more slack.

I admit the previews very inticing with its epic scale. It looks like LOTR in space with convicts instead of Hobbits. Its been awhile since some went ALL OUT on a scifi space flick (offense INTENDED, George Lucas).

i'm not even going to bother 'seeing' it now, because the quality won't be as good as if you wait a few weeks.  and for this movie, i can wait a few weeks ;) :D

Well when I moved into my new place last year, I didn't get a phone and disconnected my dsl.  I was hardly on anymore cuz my old computer was coughing and wheezing it's last breaths.  So whenver I needed osmething, I'd have to do it from work... which frown on it.  I just got a phone in my place this weekend, but it's dial up.  I won't get DSL til I get a harddrive that fits stuff.  Mines just about bursting at the zipper..

EDIT:  And Pitch Black was the type of movie I had to see a few times to really appreciate it.  It's one of my favorites now.  Not worth watching at the theater, but when it was running on cable it was fun to watch.

Riddick is gonna be completely different than Pitch Black.  They consider Pitch Black to be like the Hobbit was to Lord of the Rings.

It's kind of like...wait....no...

It's like...no...not that either...

It's unlike any sci-fi movie to come out ever.  It's as unique as it's predacessor Pitch Black, although I kind of wish there had been a few more nods back to the original film, like Riddick still having his claw.  He seemed very fond of it.

I dunno. My...err....'ticket' is around 1.1Gb, and the 500mb ROTK ticket I had was beautiful quality.

Anyway: *returns to the 'cinema'*

True dat. I just saw it on TV a few days ago, which would be around my 4th viewing. Riddick is a pretty interesting character, in that he's an anti-hero, and not the typical bruiser...

I think that with Chronicles, they sort of sold out Riddick. I haven't seen it yet, but thats just the general impression that I'm getting. As an action blockbuster, I'm sure it rocks, the same way Underworld does, but to me it just looks like they took Scorpion King, replaced The Rock with Vin Deisel, and set it in the future.

I'll get around to watching it one day, probably when it hits video. I have neither the money for theatres, nor the paitence for "theatres" right now...

Hardly, the story actually has continuity with the one that spawned it.  This one plays more like an ensemble piece rather "Insert Title Here - Starring Vin Diesel".  I mean when you get Thandie Newton, Dame Judy Dench, and others on the same set, the script is going to be something special to have attracted them.

I saw it, and I rather enjoyed it.  Don't go in there thinking its the best movie ever, which it isn't, just go in there thinking you'll have fun watching it.  It also has the one dude in Lord of the Rings in it, that "leads" the riders of rohan (the one w/ blond hair coming out of his helmet, what's his name?)
