I have noticed that the forums and the entire HLP site becomes extremely unresponsive for some reason between about 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM (US Eastern time) every few days.  Has anyone else noticed this? It doesn't happen every day but I have noticed it quite a few times now and always around this period whenever it occurs. This is not exactly a peak time of the day (usually only a handful of people on here around now), so it can't be explained by heavy activity either. Maybe the hosting service does server maintenance or something at this time every couple of days?

As I post this, it's seriously taking over five minutes for it to load up any page on the forum. Very annoying.

We are aware of these issues and trust me, we're working on it. We know what's the problem and we know what we need to do to solve the problem. With any luck, these issues will be solved in the near future.

So... if you know what the problem is, and what you need to do to solve it, what's preventing you from doing it now as opposed to "near future"?

Not that I'm critiscizing or anything, just a general wonder.....ment.

You're part of two hosted projects and thus you have access to Hosted Sites Support Forum. To answer your question you should go to the Hosted Sites Support forum and take a look at a thread called "Server troubles and solutions".

Knowing what the problem is and how to solve it doesn't make the solution easy or straightforward. :) It so happens that the solution to this problem is not trivial at all, and requires a fair amount of deliberation. You'll understand once it's fixed.

I thought it was just my internet connection. It seems to only load one post every couple of seconds most of the time.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside
