Author Topic: Missing Textures  (Read 2207 times)

I don't have an account with mantis yet, so I'll post it here.

WHenever an Orion jumps in, or sometimes an Iceni, some of it is textured, and some of the ship is grey like it is untextured.  I am running the most recent CVS build, with the 3.6.7 VP's.  No mods whatsoever.  Running with these flags:

-spec -glow -jpgtga -nomotiondebris -2d_poof -missile_lighting -no_vsync -dualscanlines -targetinfo -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -nobeampierce -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -warp_flash -snd_preload -fps  -allslev -ambient_factor 65

Any Ideas?

Yeah... I get this, too...
But only if I played a few other missions already...
I think I just don't have enough RAM ;)

512 MB RAM (non-DDR), 64 MB VRAM (DDR)...

Here are some pics of stuff that can happen then:

Funny textured Hecate
Untextured containers
Partially transparent Orion
Transparent Orion 2
Transparent Orion 3
Partially textured Orion

Woah, I thought Mine was bad, lol.

Your last pic is the most like my problem, but the big parts are untextured, mostly.

I just installed the latest Catalyst drivers, so I'm gonna see if that works.  If not, then I'm going to take a pic and send it up.

It happened on mine on a undisclosed campaign, when 4 cap ships warped in.  The third one had the texture problems (it was an orion).

My Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
1 gig of ram
ATI Radeon 9550 256mb
A holy hand grenade

I'll try to figure out what is causing this.

Do not meddle in the affairs of coders for they are soggy and hard to light

Uhm... I should mention, that I am playing under Linux ;)
And secondly I use -img2dds

But like I said: It only occurs, when I've played a few missions already...

Does it happen without -img2dds?

Assuming that it is -img2dds:
I do have one -img2dds fix about ready to go in which might help you out here (a very small idiot thing I did, or didn't do) but have been waiting until I figure out the transparent texture problem that Cobra was having.  That should rarely be an issue though so I don't know what the chances are for it to mess up like you are seeing.  -img2dds should fall back, on a per-image basis, to standard loading if for some reason the compression fails but it looks like the compression is working here, but it's just working wrong or there is a bmpman mixup where it thinks the image is/isn't compressed like it should be.  Check the logs for "Attempting to compress" and it will give the filename, the old image memory usage, and the new memory usage for all files that got compressed.  Look at the sizes for anything that's really off (new size should be between 1/4th and 1/6th the old size) and maybe that will give a clue.  Don't run with -glow and see if it makes a difference.

Back to the original problem (which wouldn't be -img2dds judging from the command lines), the only thing in there that could possibly be considered experimental would be -missile_lighting; the rest have been proven pretty solidly.  With a full set of MediaVPs, memory usage can go through the roof though.  Are the missing textures consistantly the same ones?  Or is it random?  There's a very slim possibility that you could actually be missing one of the Orion's textures if that's the case.  If the missinig map(s) is a random thing, then it's most likely a memory issue.
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

For me, it's random...
And it doesn't happen that often...

For me, it always is either the Deimos corvette, the Iceni, or the Orion.  I haven't seen any other ships with this problem.  I haven't gotten on FS2 yet, but I'll take some pictures if it happens again.

Sorry for the double post.

I started playing the Rogue Intentions campaign, and on the first level, the 2 deimos corvettes looked fine, shinemaps and all.  The next mission, when they both warped in, some of the textures were missing.  Should I just turn the graphics down or something?

Just try all of the recent CVS builds and figure out which was the last one that worked.  Let me know which that one was.

I am using the 12/18 build atm.  I'm going to try cutting off glowmaps and see if that makes any difference.

EDIT: It seems like I'm having the transparent models problem as well. In one mission, 2 deimos corvettes looked like they came out of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  Garbled textures, low-quality textures, transparency, no texture, you name it.  It was a horrifying experience.
