Look up reviews on the phone - specifically for Verizon - before buying the phone. Find the most vitriolic and critical review from someone using the phone by Verizon and take that into account.
I have a v710 from them. Now, supposedly, this phone has Bluetooth file transfer. However, Verizon has disabled this capability for 'security reasons' (although it is simple to completely turn Bluetooth on and off). The ability to transfer phonebooks has also been disabled. Conveniently, you may pay a 'small' fee (about 25 cents a picture, not sure about phonebooks) to use Verizon's transfer service. In other words, all you can do with Bluetooth is to use the phone with your computer as a modem, and use it with a wireless headset.
In addition, although you can load MP3s onto a memory card to play (since Bluetooth is crippled), I have not figured out how to copy them to the phone memory so I can use them as ringtones. I'm suspicious that Verizon disabled that as well. However, you can of course download ringtones from Verizon for about $1 each. (Somewhat cheaper if you get more than one at once)
This site has a nice little spiel on the whole deal:
