<an0n> Aparently MGM just stalled on giving their approval till the game died.
<kode> way to go.
<an0n> I'm betting it was because they're trying to sever all ties with pre-Season9 SG-1, and the game is based around the O'Neill team and Anubis.

do not torment the sleep deprived artist, he may be vicious when cornered,
in case of emergency, administer caffeine to the artist,
he will become docile after that,
and less likely to stab you in the eye with a mechanical pencil

It would have been nice had someone at Perception simply distributed the Alpha version online when they knew their fate was sealed...

It would also be nice if the higher-ups at MGM all rotted and died.

To be fair, it could have been a crap game; but it'd be nice for the developers if MGM had given us a chance to find out, as they're now all unemployed.

Isn't this the game that resulted in a far superior SG1 mod being sent a cease and desist?

And now they don't even bother releasing the game

The title was expected to be released for the PS2, Xbox, and PC last fall, but its status was put in jeopardy in August when Perception and video game publisher JoWooD Productions Software AG severed ties with one another, with the publisher accusing the developer of not creating a game of sufficient quality to meet fan expectations (story). Perception pressed on, intent on winning the legal struggle over the rights to the game and securing a new publisher.
Go JoWooD! I think that releasing a baad game is far worse than not releasing at all.

Although JoWooD had a publishers contract that allowed them to essentially remove all funding if they decided the game was of inferior quality; so it doesn't mean it was a bad game, just that JoWooD wanted to remove their financial liabilities for (funding of the) development and marketing.

And now we know why MGM dragged their heels in giving permission;

Cheyenne Mountain EntertainmentTM has obtained the license to create online games based on the popular science fiction television series, StargateTM SG-1 and StargateTM Atlantis. We are currently in pre-production of Stargate Worlds, which is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) of historical human time periods, alien environments, and outer space locations. Step through the StargateTM as an SG team of soldiers and scientists, and travel instantly to fantastic worlds in this galaxy and beyond. Players can forge alliances, establish trade, investigate ancient mysteries, and defend Earth from such hostile forces as the Goa'uld and the Ori in an immense multiplayer universe.

**** sake.  Like all MMORPGs, how many people do they honestly think will opt to play the bad guys?

Um... no ****, Sherlock?

Could work better, IMO, if you could simply play as Goa'uld and control an army of Jaffa followers RTS-style.  Because how many people are honestly going to want to be cannon-fodder Jaffas?

They were asking much the same question about the Horde before the release of WoW.

Or for that matter, folks asked who'd want to play the Germans or Japanese in Navyfield. Lot of folks, actually...

Perhaps (although I'm sure the Horde have less players than the, er, other side in WoW), but neither of those were added into a storyline with the purpose of simply shooting with an ineffective stick until a heroic bloke/woman shoots them in the chest with a P-90.  Besides which, for a 'proper' SG-1 MMO, surely you need vastly more enemies than SG team members?  Like, thousands of Jaffa vs 22 or so 4-man teams.
