OK graphic artists and those with a good eye, I just saw this photo at Yahoo and I'm wondering if it looks like image manipulation.

The caption says that the pink stuff is a protective mesh on the building, but if you look at where the pink ends on the building, it doesn't look like the vertical lines of the building line up correctly.

It looks suspicious to me like two images were combined, poorly. Anybody else see something wrong with the pic?

The left branch of the cross, at the very tip, looks fake (the edge looks fake). Also, I don't know all that much about construction, but do they weld I-beams together like that?

Actually, on the news, someone involved claimed that there was an actual cross.

No offense guys, but as a communication major in college, I have great faith in the Associated Press and their credibility. This picture was on the front of our local newspaper a few days ago, however, I don't remember the mesh, or the flag. It was only the cross, the priest, and a few other standing around.

So honestly, I don't know what to think..

Considering how buildings are made of crossed rebar (or I-beams in large buildings), it's hardly unlikely. Or a miracle. There would be no need to fake that picture, I could find a more interesting one of my nonexistent dead cat. The things people find significance in

OK, maybe I'm over analysing this (seen one too many X-Files, and Rising Sun too many times), but these are image discrepancies I'm talking about:
   

1) The shadow of the crane does not align with...
2) ... the top shadow of the crane
3) This first got my attention, the line/indentation of the building does not align. How can this be explained other than image manipulation.
4) In one part the pink stuff is in front of the flag...
5) ... and in another the flag is behind a brown smear.

Now it may not be the whole of the Associated Press who did this. Maybe the person who took the photo, or some else, acted on their own to doctor this photo.

The only reason I can see why they would to that is to make the cross of I-beams more visible/profound. Maybe the top part of the cross stretched upwards beyond the frame of the picture (like an elongated plus-sign), and so someone spliced the top of the picture down lower to make it look more like a recognizable cross.

But regardless, it sure does peak the curiosity as to what's going on between that pink stuff and the building.

I remember seeing that in a video on the news - but I don't remember any pink mesh...

I have a hard time believing this is fake. While I can't say I can explain the apparent problem with the crane shadow, the mesh part acually does look right...there is a ledge that the mesh is attached too, so it just looks like a discrepancy. The building acually gets wider right where the mesh is attached. The flag looks fine to me, the brown smear, I think, is the corner of a protrusion from the building, hiding one corner of the flag...and of course, the ledge covers teh other corner.

As for #1 and #2, I'm less sure. Are you sure #1 is a shadow?

At any rate, I don't find this picture too hard to believe. Like Black Ace, I highly doubt that AP would submit a doctored photo- and you can be they're a lot better at filtering them than we are.

Definatly a fake though. Red mesh, crane, flag... just looks completly wrong.
 I'd say the flag was actually added looking at the picture. And I'd also say the red mesh was added as well.
 Point: None I can really think of.
