Greetings all.

Just installed FS2 on my PC after a loong time in order to experience the SCP modifications. I followed the install instruction on the wiki, but every time I launch the launcher, I get the following error:

"Fatal Error - Failed to read flag file"

Some help would be mightily appreciated. I also tried searching the site, but (I think) because I'm a new member, I'm not allowed to.

Methinks you need to DL OpenAl.

Build = fs2_open_3_6_5.exe
Launcher = Launcher.exe (from Launcher5.rar)
Game Location and location of above files = C:\games\freespace2
Time of game install = today. Its a fresh install of FS2. I also ran the updater to patch it to 1.20
I also ran the OpenAl installer and rebooted.


Video card = Nvidea 5200FX. (256MB)
Video Drivers = latest and greatest

Oh no...  That wiki entry really has to be revised.

You are using very old build.. IIRC that has some requirements with devil.dll, ilu.dll and ilut.dll files which should not longer be needed (i think)

Try running 367 build and using 5.3 launcher link to download page

Ok. DL the 3.6.7 build with debugger asper the dlpage and the 5.3 launcher.

After choosing C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_367.exe with the launcher setup, I get the following error

Unrecognized command line parameter - OwE[][],continue?"

Just choose OK.

EDIT: There were some files that could be removed (that will be autogenerated by the launcher) to reset the launcher.. But i dont remember which ones they were (probably launcher*.ini and flags.lch)

The game launches and can be played, but the above error message still pops up. I also deleted the launcher*.ini and flags.lch files to no effect.

If you really can't get rid of it you can always re-run the old launcher and just untick everything. The error should then be gone when you run the new one.

First off, Thanks every one! You guys have been an amazing help.

As for the error, I went back and read the guide. If you create the mediavp folder and move the mvfiles there, then add the mediavp folder as a mod, the error goes away.

Odd. I wouldn't have expected that to solve the problem but it's a good habit anyway
