Best Sound Option in SCP ?

What exactly is the best sound option in Freespace 2 ?

my nforce2 soundstorm sound supports all 3 options but I'm wondering if there is a prefered option to use, like OpenGL is used over Direct X for example. I can't tell much difference between them all and I usually use DirectX sound.

Eax is probably best, but you have to have a surround sound speaker setup to get the proper impact from it.

There's code for EAX, but it isn't actually used (or didn't actually work, last time I tried).

The best option is probably OpenAL, which in the launcher is called "Directsound" (it hasn't been updated yet). However EAX and A3D might just default to OpenAL as well.
