Beam slowdown problem
Just curious as to what actually causes the slowdown from the new animated beam cannons. Also, is there a patch that works for the 3.6.8 VPs?

Well, yeah =P, but why does that cause certain systems to slow down? My computer isn't exactly a relic >.>...

Animated beamglows = 30+ images that have to be loaded into your cards video RAM where as before you had to load 1. And video RAM is already a limited commodity in FS2_Open.

What would realy be useful is an installer program that builds VPs as it installs.  That way, if you select a custom install, it will allow you to enable or disable certain features selectively, while compiling all your selections into one or a few VP files.

There already is a way. remove mv_adveffects. or, just extract everything you want from mv_adveffects except the beams and shockwaves. :p

Just leave everything as it is and copy this into your effects folder.

The perfromance is way better than with the ANIs, while the quality is almost the same. I've tested it.



Edit: If it works, please tell me! Many people stop repying when their problem is solved and I never know whether it worked or not.
