Anyone think the BSG mod looks better than the official game?
Ok, fuelled by a BSG pilot episode i'd only ever seen the last quarter of, it is now my mission to go buy some of the series. But I was looking at the official game and comparing it with the mod. I'm not one for buying film-game franchises, but can I just point out that universal's game adaptation looks just plain shoddy.

Bizzarrely, even though it's on an old enginge, I was more excited by the BSG mod for FS open.

Re: Anyone think the BSG mod looks better than the official game?
Not really. BTRL looks good, bloody good for a mod off a game over 5 years old. But an official game would have a full developer house of paid professionals, a far more advanced engine, considerably more resources in terms of creative tools, and possible collaboration with the dynamite CGI team for Galactica. Not to mention the possibility of getting voices supplied by some of the cast themselves, which be considerably awesome.

Without a doubt, an official game would rock to high heaven, but we ain't got one, and might not get one for a while if at all. Beyond the Red Line is easily the next best thing, and will undoubtedly be hailed as the defacto TNS BSG game by the fanbase for a long, long time.

buuut, if the mod team and the developers of the official game could... well, y'know, "merge", that'd be even more awesome. :D

Pay attention. He's not asking if you think BtRL looks better than an official game. He's asking if BtRL looks better than the official game.

I can't comment. I've only played one of them.

Ah, you've got me, now that I read the initial post again. Rightio.

But, if you want to get technical, the game you linked to was - as you know - for the Original series, meaning it's technically the official game of a different universe. I've not seen nor heard anything regarding an official BTRL-style game for the new Galactica, which we can all agree is truly the money Galactica. Hence I maintain that an official TNS-based game would be eeeeever-so-slightly more ace than BTRL.

Re: Anyone think the BSG mod looks better than the official game?
Mefustea, you are only partially right.

It IS the Official Prequel TO the new BSG. (IE) SAME UNIVERSE, just earlier time period.

You are young Edward James Olmos ("Husker" Adama) Flying the vivendi version of the Mark I and Mark II vipers (NOT the origianal series starhound vipers)..

There is no Apollo or Starbuck or Tigh from the original series we know and love, but the NEW characters aged 20 years earlier.

All ships shown are now considered CANON for the timeline.

Just think if Volition had made FS2 FIRST, then 1-2 years later made FS1 as a prequel. IT still is official and the SAME universe.

Understand?

Incidently, I liked it not at all and promptly returned the $20.00 game the next day and got only $2.00 back. (bastards)

It's not canon. It has elements from both the '70s and 2003 miniseries, but it's not part of either.  for one thing, it has a 500 year old original Series Galactica, and for another it also has the original series Starbuck and Apollo (as part of a cheat, but a mission having them flying back in time, etc, to explain the discontinuity was dropped).

It's officially licensed, but it's no more canonical than, say, Knights of the Old Republic is for Star Wars unless it's adopted by such at some point during the series.
