Re: Dust proof MP3 (CD) player
Get a normal player and put it inside one of those transparent perspex boxes like they put extremeley sick kids in for isolation. When your dad needs to add more CDs he could take it out of the shed and load it where there's no dust, but he could keep the ones he's using in the meantime inside. And there's no need for the rubber glove things to manipulate the controls if you get one with a remote control.

An FM Transmitter with a el-cheapo FM-Stereo, or if he was willing to go as far as getting one of those multifunction AM/FM Radio/Battery Charger units, such as this and use an FM-transmitter to transmit to the radio, that'd be the best route.  This particular radio here charges Dewalt batteries, and has an aux port for any CD-player or MP3 device, meaning a corded connection, but with an FM transmitter, you wouldn't even need that.  If you're worried about longevity, anything inside a dusty environment is simply not going to work as long as it would in a more sensible environment.  The dust will get inside the player eventually, cause I know what kind of dust we're talking about here, the tiny, microscopic **** that sticks to everything, along with the bigger, coarser variety of sawdust.  It's that fine dust that will eventually make any optical device stop working properly in time.
So, you can seal it up and transmit it via FM radio, or just buy the cheapest MP3 player you can find and just toss it when it dies.

Thanks for all of the advice, people.

In the blurb for the DeWalt thing it said it had it's own storage area, but I might've misread that. I'll be looking for FM/AM transmitters soon, probably.

Re: Dust proof MP3 (CD) player
You know, most tool brands have that sorta thing for thier worksites.  I think Bosch has a cooler-radio-charger thing, to keep your "root beer" cold at work, while listening to the tunes and keeping your extra batteries charged.  Depending on what manufacturer your dad uses, I'm sure that the manufacturer of his cordless tools makes such a ..  "creature".  You could put the CD-player in the storage space and still transmit to FM, which would be good cause the transmitter is close to the antenna, and there's no cords hangin out anywhere.  Of course, it depends on if your dad likes to use cordless tools, and if he has all or most of his cordless tools under one brand.  If he's anything like my dad, he'll have a Milwaukee drill, a Bosch cordless circular saw and drill, and another Dewalt drill, all using different battery types.
And Root Beer actually sounds very good right now..

Nope, we've got most stuff from DeWalt, so that's what I was looking at, yes.
