OUCH!

Quote:
Sony Computer Entertainment UK MD Ray Maguire has revealed that PlayStation 3 will retail for GBP 425 when it launches in the UK on November 17th, but has defended the price point as "a bargain" for consumers.

Quote:
"I don't think it's an expensive machine; I think actually, it's probably a cheap machine," he commented. "If you think a Blu-Ray player by itself might be GBP 600-700, and we're coming in at just GBP 425 - it's a bargain."

Isn't that about twice the price of the 360 in the UK?

Over twice the base unit price (going by the Argos website) of £210 (core is £280; I think the RRP must've been dropped then).  It's scarcely a shock, though; the estimates for the PS3 price went up to £500 IIRc, although it's still a vast sum of money compared to my expectation.  The PS3 and Sony as a company were always going to be tied to Blu-ray, though.

"Phil Harrison told GI.biz earlier, "You can put in any drive that you like - it is a computer, after all." "...

Finally, the truth comes out.
