our flag day is actually called Valdemarsdag, and it's in commemoration of a battle in Estonia in 1219, during the course of which legend has it the Danish flag Dannebrog descented from the sky, inspiring the troops to win an impressive victory. In truth it was probably some drunk squaddie who loaded the wrong ammo into a cannon, but whatever
Incidentally it's also reunion day, as June 15 is also the day Denmark regained southern Jutland, which had been in German hands since the war of 1864.
