Oki guis just started to realize that mi Pc is getting desperatly outdated! Mi pc is 3 years old with no imporvement what so ever. Its a Amd Athlon 2400+ Xp with its real speed at 2000 Mhz. I have a GF3Ti on it just 256 Mb of Ram DDR at 400 Mhz. And a soltek motherboard.

Yeah I know its old and desperately in need of an upgrade. The problem is with the money I can sped for the upgrade. I was thinking of adding at least another 256 Mb of ram. but on the Other hand I wanted to change the motherboard and the video card. I can invest somethinl like 100 euros for each one. Also i can salvage about 150 euros from selling to specialized shops or some friends of mine the existing motherboard and videocard.

So what can I get for this amount of money. I know its not a lot of meny but a GF 6600 or a Ati 9550 is just about  80-85 euros here. Can some one help. I can not aford a high end pc right now. Maibe  next year I can get miself a good PC but untill then I have to use this one. What is your sugestion.


Edited: Oki just did another math of the actual manoy i can sped and its about 400-425 euros or about 500+ dolars. For a motherboard vidcard! The Aditional RAM i can get from a friend.

There are no worthwhile upgrades to that machine. Salvage the disk drives, sell the RAM, and replace the rest of it wholesale.

On the other hand, if you're satisfied with the CPU and graphics card, you could just add RAM. Anything else would require replacement of mainboad, CPU, graphics card, etc, since AGP is dead and so is Socket A.

I know theyr dead i just want to get its performance up bi at least 40% reagrading the graphics card and motherboard RAM. I said i will bui a new one but that dream is at least 6 months away so for now i really need to do something about its graphics card ! The DDR is not a problem I can add up to 3 GB i think so another 512 should hold me for at least another year.

On the other hand It nowhere near enough. I have found some GF 6600 ge-TD on 128 bites with 256 MB of RAM on it at about 120 euros.


Edit:You are right you know! I was thinking of leaving it to mi younger brother on the other hand.

I managed tu buil a Pc at about 750 Euros . Its and AMd 64 3200+ at 2Ghz. soket 939 i think it was with a gigabyte motherboard and a x1300 pro ati radeod vidcard at 256 mb 128 bites 600/800 Mhx frequencies. 512 Dual DDR. The motherboard uses an nForce4 chipset. with an 80GB SATAII 8mb buffer hdd. Combo CD-rw/DVD

The CPU is BOX ! Is it worth while to go ahead and get some sort of schedjueled paiment each moth on this PC or should i wait to get it cash?

I'd wait till you can pay for it all, or you'll probably get screwed for interest.

the interest is at about 11 % per year. With no hidden interests they were aoutlawed by the gouverment.

The point is that if i bui one in monthly paiments I can aford to go up to about 900-1000 Euros on the PC!

I'm sure you could survive long enough to save up the money for the PC.  Also, as you save up technology will force the cost of it down.  Whereas if you pay monthly, the value of the thing naturally goes down, yet the cost increases...... unless you literally need a new Pc right now, I'd just save up the cash.

Don't forget in the next few months, both companies will be massively pricecutting in expectations of Conroe. Intel for dumping stock, AMD to save marketshare.

With your budget I would advise you to hold on to your current processor and board and just replace the video card and memory. That would give you a much nicer performance boost than replacing everything with the same budget. I'm not sure what the prices are like in Europe, but around here 1GB of name brand DDR value memory is about $70 and the 256MB X800GTO is still the best sub-$150 AGP card by some distance. A 6600GT is also a pretty decent choice for about $130 if you can't find the GTO. You can save up the rest towards a full upgrade next year or something.

It's worth waiting a few weeks for the Core 2 launch and AMD price cuts if you're planning to buy a new processor, but otherwise you might as well buy now and enjoy your upgrade instead of waiting several months.
