Question to unpack some campains (If I'm allowed)
Hallo guys

I would like to know which program I can use to unpack some campains which are packed in VP files and where I can download it. Can someone help me please?

I want to translate some campains to German. Of course I will ask the autors of the campains. I don't want to change the missions or any other things. I only want to translate the mission text, the briefings etc...

Greetings
Beli

I hope I'm in the right forum for my question and you can understand my bad English :nervous:

VPview is what you're looking for, if using a windows system.

QuickVP is what I recommend. Its stable and reliable. Available at the SCP website.
VPview 2.0 has more features, but may be unstable. And I have encountered .vp's it won't read, but that QuickVP opened. VPview 2.0 is also available from the SCP website.

What do you mean with unstabile? Errors in the files?

Re: Question to unpack some campains (If I'm allowed)
By unstable I mean that it may sometimes (rarely) crash. Nothing serious, but requires on to start up the program again. I used VPview a lot some years ago. But have now moved to QuickVP because it stable, works and I like it better. There a bunch of vp associated programs floating around, I encourage you to try them out. Find one you like. The ones montioned are the "dominant ones", and are all worth a try.

That sounds nice :)

Afraid I didn't found QuickVP, so I did download for the first moment the VPView 2.0 till I can find QuickVP.

But I have two last questions about the programs. I can unpack the VPs, but can I pack it again, when I'm done with my tranlations?

And my second question is that I have a few campaigns which are not packed in the VP format, but this campains are campain files. How can I get every single mission file?

Sorry that I'm so annoying, but I really like the most of the campains here, but sometimes I can't understand it :nervous:

Re: Question to unpack some campains (If I'm allowed)
For QuickVP check: http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?list.11

You don't have to pack the VP again to use the files. You can place the files in their respective folders in the freespace2/data folder (mission in /missions folder, tables in /tables folder etc.). Infact, if you alter files in .vp's it is better not to repack them, it may create problems. Just place the files in the /data folder, the game will check there first so if a .vp has the same file that can be found in /data, the one in the .vp will be ingored. Ok, I could have propably explained that better.

But basicly, yes, .vp's can be repacked. But you don't really have to. Unless you plan to release something, then it is convinient to pack them in to .vp...

Re: Question to unpack some campains (If I'm allowed)
I want to post the translatet campains in a german forum. I'll ask the autors if I'm allowed to do that. If not, then I can use the translatet campaigns for me.

And VPs would be better, I think, for downloads. Cause my upload volume is not soo big as you think.
