Okay, so I got my Mac! It's pretty awesome, I'm really thinking I made the right decision... anyway I've spent the day carrying over all my files from my old computer and I'm trying to watch a .avi file now that has DivX encodoing... I went and downloaded DivX blah blah. Usually if there wasn't the encoding, just the image would show up, right? That's been my experience anyway. But this time, nothing showed up before DivX. After I installed it, I've got a moving image but no sound. Any chance anybody could point me in the right direction for the codec I need? This is for a Mac, remember... I know there aren't too many Mac users around. Thanks everybody!

Is the sound turned on? :p
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Sounds like you're missing correct audio codec. I am not familiar with OS X, but I think you will have to use 3rd party media players for extensive video and audio support.

Under linux I use either Totem, Gxine, MPlayer or VLC depending which is the first to play a media file correctly. :doubt:

Perhaps this is missing too: http://sourceforge.net/projects/qtac3codec/

This will allow you to read AC3 compressed audio on qt.
