Pretty. Though the shadows are not all correctly aligned on all of the moons visible in the picture.

...aand, a nova in the same system would be pretty damn much brighter, but let's just say it's a smaller eruption/explosion on the surface of the star, that could very well cause a gas burst around a star much similar to what is seen here.

Do you have it on bigger resolution or did you work it on that size? I would suggest working on bigger size, then saving it in uncompressed  form and putting a high-quality JPG file to net... That's what I do. If you got it on bigger size, I'd like to see that also.

How did you make the rings of that planet? They are IMO the best single thing in this pic.

Nope dont have a high res atm, i just quickly drafted the thing in a hour, but if i find some free time i'll create a hi res and polished version.

The rings are created with the use of the twirl filter on a vector sphere, added some noise after that, scaled and moved it into position, adjusted the perspective and masked the thing out. Then i duplicated the layer and blurred it abit to get a slight glow.

The title is nova, but the gas clouds are bright nebula's instead of a supernova going on.

But enough of that. I personally like the pic, Alexander. My only complaint is that the rings looks a bit... fuzzy. If it had a little less radiance around its edges (where it looks like its "shining"), it would be 100x more aesthetically-pleasing. Other than that, great work. I've got a new desktop background.
