This question is for 3ds Max users.

3ds max has an option to change the graphics mode. Up until now, i've been using D3D without any problems except it took a god-awful long time to load.

Today I switched to OpenGL. Miraculously, it loaded MUCH faster. However, it seems to be crashing occasionally. The circumstances for the crashes are very odd. It only crashes when I have the Windows Calculator in front of the 3ds max window.

It doesn't crash if any other application is in front of it.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know if it's a OpenGL thing or just a random bug that would happen in D3D as well?

I've noticed Opengl doesn't work very good in max (which is completely odd).  it doesn't crash it just has artifacts, poorer quality modeling.

It really depends on your graphics card. IIRC nVidia cards run OGL better than ATi's, but ATi's do D3D better than nVidia. Or vice versa. But again, it depends on your hardware.

I have an integrated intel chipset on the laptop, and both are equally slow. But I use OGL out of habit. Not that Hardware support even exists... :doubt:

Well mines an nvidia card.... although it's no longer supported  :sigh: Although DirectX looks and is fast enough to not be a concern about opengl.

I think I went with OGL because it slowed down less and the textures were smoother, but that was in Gmax before I got 3ds. I think I went with habbit too.
