Re: school shootings, not even the amish are safe!
The school in Colorado where the shooting occured is one of those small, rich, public schools where no one expects this kind of thing.

Would you expect it any other school?

You'd actually expect a school shooting?  (serious question)

In some High schools, I wouldn't expect, but I wouldn't be surprised at all. Montbello in particular is basically gang run, and it isn't the worst.

Re: school shootings, not even the amish are safe!
Just for a political commentary, I recall reading a report on this a few days after it happened, where it mention that this was something like the third school shooting in as many weeks. Only in America, eh?

Only the second in three weeks in America. The other was Canadian.[/nitpick]

That aside, apparently they can't actually confirm that anything the guy said on the phone to his wife was true. It appears he might have been talking out of his ass, so the motive is still up in the air.

I find it baffling to have a situation, in any country, where a shooting in a school would be anything less than utterly shocking.  Hell, even a school stabbing is major news here (of course, the smaller UK population means we have less opportunity for such a thing to happen).

There was another one where a 15 year old kid walking into his school and shot his principle.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

You sure you're not thinking of April 2003, the Red Lion shooting?  The kid was 14, and I would know.  I went to school there.

I was listening to the raido on my way to work when they played a tape with an interview with a woman. This woman said those dead amish girls deserved to die. I wanted to reach through my radio and hit that *****. They did nothing to deserve what they got. People make me sick.

:wtf: How did she justify that reasoning?

I imagine the same way people justify saying that homosexuality is responsible for US army deaths. "God did it".

She really didn't. I think she was some kind of religious nut. Even after the interview said something about some of the girls being put on hooks and raped, she still said they deserved it. After the tape, the radio host had to take a break. He was getting very emotional and started to cry, and this was on a rock/metal station.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that she was one of those Westboro Baptist ****ers.  I don't think I'm the type of person that could be easily driven to commit murder, but if anything could do it, it'd be some of the vile **** that those people spew.

Every religion has its share of radicals...

Re: school shootings, not even the amish are safe!
And thats why I'm glad not to be part of a religion and not having religious beliefs either.

Of course, there are collectively more non-religious radicals than religious ones, so that just makes you more likely to be one. Catch-22.
