I've posted concerning it here, and here.

In a nutshell, its purpose is to duplicate, as closely as possible, Tachyon: The Fringe's flight model and "feel" within FS2's game engine - which is vastly superior to Tachyon's, in almost every way.  I (and many like me) just happen to like how Tachyon *flies*.

The project will be titled "Fringespace", it now has it's own url, and will be looking for members and/or advice, whichever you'd like to offer :D

It can be found at Fringespace.org.

I'd like to make a request of you good folks, though.  I'd like to populate our FAQ section, and I'd like you to ask me questions about the mod, and what I plan - so I can answer them.  Whatever you like.  I can take the heat!

You can do this either by replying in this thread, or by visiting our FAQ section, and using the "ask a question" link there.

What mod engine are you using to work in Tac?

Tachyon is a novalogic game - we're porting all of the ships, weapons, and the like, and putting them into the SCP as a mod, mostly geared for multiplayer.

Tachyon itself, we tried to mod - but the game engine is so horrible that it's just about un-upgradable.  So, we're going to junk their engine, and try to keep the flight model.

Is that what you meant?

Well, I'm not sure. I was wondering if anything from Descent3 Edit would work?

No, it's not from the Descent series of games.

Every previous mod involved a lot of code-cracking and decoding - let's just put it that way.  The code for Tachyon is a nightmare.

i remember alot of people in tachyon argued that the physics were better than freespace. you know i found that the physics in freespace are exactly like those of tachyon if:
1. you increase the damp factors
2. jack up the max velocity

also freespace now has the slide control (called glide though). in case you didnt already know.

I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Yeah, I did, thanks :D

I know what you're talking about - the other things, which you'd see more clearly in multiplayer, are the multi-axis thrust capabilities.

Reverse thrust, and lateral/side thrust.  Makes the dogfights blazingly quick, and the learning curve very close to vertical.

Don't get too excited, given how busy I am these days its likely that the Pegasus will be the ONLY model I convert.
I have created a masterpiece.

That IS a very nice model, Vengence.

If you can help, we'd appreciate it very much!

That being said - if anyone here happens to have some spare time for modeling, we're looking for a couple (or three :D) to help out.  I'm also going to look at a few game development sites I frequent, and ask for help there, too - but, as is obvious, I'd LOVE to have people with FS2 experience.

If you can help, and you'd like to be in on the project, in any capacity (in even a "as it is possible" capacity, email me, pm me here, or visit the website/forums - http://fringespace.org.

Backslash - I'm going to pm you this evening.

Knew about this project?  My friend and I started it up only about a month ago.  Sure you're not talking about something else?

Hmm.. perhaps he was referring to a previous mod attempt for Tachyon.

Otherwise, hello all. I'm Razor's partner in this endeavor.
I'll probably stop by on occasion to ask a question, but otherwise I'm going to leave
HLP to Razor.  :)

Thanks for the support and help.

HEY! that's not allowed! You're just trying to get out of hearing the welcome speech!

COMMAND: INCOMING JUMP SIGNATURE! NEW USER CONFIGURATION!

Helm! Ready all beam cannons!
Lock Beam Cannons and fire on my command!
FIRE!

NO, YOU IDIOT! USE THE BIG BEAM CANNON!
FIRE!
:welcome:

Welcome to HLP! Exits are to the right and left. In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. Flamethrowers are conviniently located under your seats, however, due to the recent funding cuts, a $3.5 million donation is required to obtain a flamethrower with a full load of napalm in it. If you do not wish to make a donation, your flamethrower will remain filled with water. If you don't wish to donate and still want a working weapon, you'd have to try the weapons locker. However, only HLP Admins, a :v: God, or a Hyperintelligent shade of Blue can open the lock, so you'd have to break in. If you find yourself inside a ventilation shaft and you catch a glimpse of a Shivan, you don't need to worry... much. It's just Carl, and you have two choices with how you want to deal with him:
    1. The first possible course of action is getting one of the weapons from the afore-mentioned weapons locker, and trying to ward off Carl by threatening him with the weapon. Be advised that many of the weapons in the weapons locker are covered with the blood of people who thought it a good idea to break into the weapons locker and use the procured weapon to ward off Carl. So, please, if you decide you want to choose this course of action, choose one of the already-bloody weapons, so you don't get blood all over one of the clean ones.
   2. Your second course of action when you see Carl is to throw your lunch to him and hope he isn't hungry. This is the better option.
As a final note, please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by Freespace Fanboys. Your trampled remains will be fed to Carl so that the rest of us don't have to carry around so much food for lunch.

by the way, when you want to use the welcome beam, use :*welcome*: (without *s) instead of  [img*]http://www.hard-light.net/forums/Smileys/HLP/welcome2hlpbb.gif[/img*]
