Experimenting with polys.
Something I had in my sketchbook for a while.
I finally decided to build it in 3d, hashing the thing out with as few polys as possible. Not sure if I'm going to go back and do a more reasonable looking version yet.

If it looks a bit clumsy and outdated, thats what I was shooting for  :nervous:

Re: Experimenting with polys.
Course it does, barely 400 polys in the thing :p
Just a bad habit of mine to build quick models when trying to make a 2d idea in 3d.
(1337 texture painting skillz in action...  :doubt:)

heh nice. You know to me it looks a tiny bit like a super deformed version of Mark's Jet (G Force).

Re: Experimenting with polys.
Actually its based on a Mig-15 UTI... or was at one point.
Its meant to represent an early space fighter/pod designed by people that needed ships but had no real idea of what else they needed.  So its just a fuel tank with thrusters bolted on in convenient places.

Re: Experimenting with polys.
That sketch looks a lot like early German designs for jet fighters. Plonk the engine down behind the pilot, run an intake duct around both sides of the cockpit (which is why the MiG-15 has the vertical divider in the nose), attach the tail as close as possible and fill the wings with fuel.

The American F-86 had the cockpit higher and used a single intake duct running below it.

Why later designs had the longer fuselage in the rear was mainly to move the tail back for better stability. Even so, the MiG-15 had more rake to the fin than the F-86 and put the stabilizer at its top to help more with stability.

Cute.

Looks like it shares some influences with something I did.

Vaguely resembles the Ta.283. Were you inspired by that?
