Re: Russian Music Site Ethics
If they are legal and cheap yes. If they are illegal and cheap no.  I don't see anyone burning in hell for copying a few mp3s but you don't line the pockets of people who sell illegal copies. That's just a step too far.

Re: Russian Music Site Ethics
The thing is you never know. The problem is that I cannot find any copies of certain albums that are no longer availiable in the US such as Dune - History and Forever. Otherwise I would purchase the physical albums and rip them my self. Does anyone have any alternatives?

I'd rather pirate it than give the Russian Mafia money.

unless it is something very unpopular or very obscure, it does. You just gotta know how to search.

Those sites are illegal, full of viruses, and probably fund Russian organized crime. Pirating mp3s is one thing, but pirating mp3s and lining the pockets of the Russian mafia is much, much worse.

Re: Russian Music Site Ethics
Well, if these sites fund the Russian mafia, and the Russian mafia decided to suddenly get behind a communist resurgence, then yes, pirating music does support Communism. And then the US government would finally get the excuse they've been waiting for to jail music pirates under something a little harsher than merely stealing...say sedition, or treason. Imagine Gitmo full of pale-faced young nerds, shouting "It was only old Radiohead album!" as they get waterboarded.

How freaking awesome would that be, eh? Eh?

Re: Russian Music Site Ethics
The reason the prices are so low to buy from Russia is because that's about how much they cost over there.  The reason the big sites (allofmp3.com, for example) are still alive is because they cooperate with their local copyright laws.  The reason said sites are legal is because according to US and UK trade laws, phonographs are legal for importation, so long as it is used for private use, and not for distribution.  The RIAA doesnt like it one bit, but they know they cant do a damn thing about any of it.

They can work towards changing the law. you do know that they're known as "the other US embassy" in a few countries, right?
