HELP Lost Drive letter
My PC has been misbehaving this morning.  My G drive letter has vanished, and what was the G drive shows as free space in Disk Administrator.

Can someone suggest how i can map the drive letter back without losing the data that is currently marked as "free space"?

Your FreeSpace installation has became sentient, taken over that partition and will eventually either release F+S+Sqrt[9] into BitTorrents, or it will take over the Internet, start a nuclear war, destroy all human life on Earth and then keep playing itself.

...

Can you try the HD in another computer? Perhaps something with *nix based OS in stead of Windows?

You could also try and revert to latest system restore point in which it recognized the partition. Other than that, I have no idea what's going on.

Try to reassign drive letters, use something other then G: if you can... if that works the system glitched, if it doesnt theres a bigger problem.

Testdisk will save you.

Someone recommended it to me a while back when I had a similar problem and it proved to be an absolute godsend. Not certain this is the best advice but personally I'd shutdown and restart first to ensure it isn't just Windows playing silly buggers if you haven't already. After that read everything you can about a good recovery procedure and then run testdisk.

Partition table damaged?  If a drive was there, then it's not, that's what would be apparent to me.  I'll have to check out Testdisk as well, looks like a really neat program.  Usually Windows won't report something screwy like this unless the partition table itself is damaged.  Check your disk as well for bad sectors, defects, etc.  If ya got any, better gear up for getting a new drive.
