Capships shooting themselves....
I don't know if any of you have noticed, but there are instances in which capships "shoot" themselves with heavy beam fire yet the "shot" passes through the ship to hit the enemy.  There is no damage to the ship firing the beam itself.

This is most evident with the GTD Hecate (have the side Terslash beam cannons fire at something straight ahead) or the GTVA Colossus.

Wondering if the SCP team is aware of this and trying to fix it.

Thanks.

Re: Capships shooting themselves....
That is a long known issue that wont be fixed due backwards compatibility.. Fixing it would break some retail FreeSpace 2 missions. IIRC however there are plans of reintroducing this feature (it was in use earlier) via subsystem (turret) flags.

Re: Capships shooting themselves....
Is there any way this can be done so that the Capship doesn't open fire on itself?

"check hull" subsystem flag for turrets, they won't fire through the hull of there own ship to hit something on the other side.
