Are briefing icon types, by which I mean the options that appear in the "Icon Image" pull-down in FRED (Fighter, Fighter Wing, Cargo, Cargo Wing etc....) hard coded? Hopefully not in which case how do I modify (add to) the lsit?

They are indeed hard-coded.  There's talk of making them customizable, but that would be for 3.7.

You did a good job of icons.tbl Triv. FS2's icon system is bonkers. It's actually too clever. A suggested icon for each ship in ships.tbl and the option to override that with any icon from the full list in FRED wouild have done. I'm surprised Volition missed that. They're usually smart cats.

Well thanks guys for the reply. It just means a few ships won't have icons. Not a great many at that since Triv upgrades us to 10 or so different species

I'm trying to figure out under which circumstances icons appear when you press "Make Icon" in FRED. Most are obvious but a few I am trouble figuring out. Here is a list of what I have if anyone can help me complete it. On the left is what you have to have selected when you press the button and on the right what you get.

One ship with "fighter" flag -> Fighter icon
Multiple ships with "fighter" flag -> Fighter wing icon
One ship with "cargo" cannister -> Cargo icon

We'll likely see a feature request thread come up once 3.6.9 is in the can.  It will probably be a coder who posts it, along with other post-3.6.9 features already being or have been implemented.
