Too many 3.6.9. install stuff...
I've seen way too many FreeSpace SCP's that are 3.6.9. that can be downloaded. I have two of them, one is from the "Official 3.6.9" thread and the RAR is simply called 3.6.9. Another one I have...forgot where I got it...is called 3.6.9.-RC7. What's the difference between the plain file and the ones with all the gibberish after it?

the plain 3.6.9 is the most recent. The other one is (slightly) older.

No, I don't care, really. I have no clue what any program / Internet acronym means as I've only realistically used it for four years, not since the first day it was released.

And you do realize that if you don't know something, the obvious answer is to ask a question about it. When doing this on-line, it (sadly) usually means being flamed in addition to receiving an answer. (Your post = case in point)

I'd say it would look way more stupid to say you know what it means and be completely wrong than to ask a question about it. Lighten up a bit.
