Odd behaviour with blob turrets... =\


I'm getting this odd behaviour where my blob projectiles just vanish when they get really close to the destroyer's hull, and the damage numbers don't blink to indicate that the destroyer took any damage.

The strange thing is that the railgun shot doesn't have this problem - it hits (as you can see from the blue trail and the impact particle), and the hull integrity drops as per normal.

Am I doing something wrong here? :confused:

In case it matters, the blob turrets are supposed to be able to attack both fighters/bombers and heavy ships (they're weak, but a single turret fires tons of these). The railgun is anti-cap only.

I was thinking of that actually. I'll move the ships closer and see if that helps.

(I didn't want to set the range over 2.5km, because then the bombers would have trouble getting in close. And then there's that 100-ship limit in FRED... I did use FOF to offset it, but I don't really trust the "dumb" AI.)

What the crap... the capships were exactly 3km apart. Must've been me wanting space for the beam frenzy without the player getting caught in it. :lol:

Memo to self: don't listen to in-game ranges. Now I just need to increase the impact particle sizes, so that I know if the projectiles truly hit...

if you set fof to be anything more than a one preceded by a large number of zeros and a dot then I can assure you it will be next to usless on anything further than a few hundred feet away.

My FOF values for my two blob turrets are 1.35 (2 shots) and 2 (1 shot) respectively. The weapons are super-rapid-firing anyway, so I don't think it'll matter that much. I wanted to portray the feel of dodging a crapload of blobs while trying to launch a bomb... but I haven't done a lot of testing on that area :lol:.

Without the FOF, if I fly a bomber, I get torn apart by the projectiles :shaking:

Yes, it is your Orion, in a test battle against c914's Sirona. (I hope Karajorma doesn't come after me :nervous:) I needed a HTL Orion with more guns than the MediaVPs one, and now I'm using both... obviously one needs to be better than the other... :)

Actually the effects are from Nuke's old dump, since the only things I can do are FRED and simple tabling. :( For this particular weapon, these should be the laser entries you need (note that they can use some tweaking though):

Oh yeah, now that you mentioned it I did beef up my HTL Orion with more light turrets..couldn't stand how redicolously undergunned it was (cruisers had more turrets!)

But for some real firepower I'd reccomend my Orion MK2 :D

I'm not using the MK2 yet, although I have it (and will use it soon enough). It's just too bad that there isn't a HTL version of Hamano's crazy Orion out there. A dictator needs a crazy capital ship...  :mad2: :lol: The funny thing is, I made your Orion too uber; even with weaker (but faster-firing beams), it guns down the supposedly superior Sirona 90% of the time - I have to rebalance it.

Who says that I'm using the same names for those ships?  Actually, I'm using Raport's Turret-upgrade and up-gunned pre-HTL Orion, as well as TrashMan's first Orion MK2, and Hamano's Orion Phase 2, but I've got different names for them all.  Besides, I've got them in FS1-era.  You using Hamano's Ticonderoga?
