i just blew up a psu yesterday. bought it to replace the dying psu in my old rig (and i mean old, a p4 2.4ghz chip one of the early ones, a gutter-level geforce 4, and 256 megs of bad ram). it was used and i bought it at state surplus for about 5 bucks. i hooked it up right and booted. sence it worked i started taking apart the old psu. opened it up, discharged the caps and disconnected the fan. i soldered the fan to an old molex i wasnt using so i could hook it up for a quick test. now sanity dictates that i turn off the machine *before* plugging in the fan. now we all know nuke is not a man of sanity, so i lazily hook the thing up to my new cheap psu. that was a hell of a light show, fortunately i didnt die. unfortunately the psu and possibly the computer were dead. and sence i jad just dismanteled the other psu (had destructively de-soldered some useful components), i didnt have a spare i could use to test. oh well, i still got 3 computers left. i just hope i didnt fry my laptop drives (adapted for tower with hot clue gun + adapter)/wireless network card. i have uses for those.
