The Imperial Civil War
Because I must constantly punish myself, apparently, here's yet another story of mine, in the Star Trek mirror universe, in the 24th century.

The I.S.S Excalibur ran her patrol in the Azati Prime system, pushing past an asteroid, running at impulse.  The Excalibur was one the finest ships in the Terran Empire, an old Ambassador class Battlecrusier.  She'd been patroling the Azati Prime system for about three years, having been assigned to Starbase 285, which was simply better known as the Azati Prime station.  The I.S.S Excalibur's commander was Paul Wainwright, known as a effective commander, with the I.S.S Beowulf, with which he had managed to evade a Klingon trap in the Delta Serpentis system, a mere three light-years from earth.

The Bridge of the Excalibur was typically quiet, but it was mostly from boredom, than it was from tension, or anything of the sort.  Wainwright looked over the consoles as he walked around the bridge.  Nothing out of the ordinary.  But he was going to wish very soon that every thing was normal

"Captain, we're getting a transmission, from a nearby Imperial ship."  Lieutanant Harry Kim said.  Wainwright looked confused.  "Put it on."
"This is Admiral Bosch, I am calling all men and women to rebel.  I am issueing a call to arms, as a indivisioble nation, to rise up agi-"
Wainwright looked disgusted.  "Cut the channel."  he then motion with his hand over his throat.  Ensign Kim killed the transmission immediatly.  "Sir, apparently the name of the rebellion of the Confederacy."
Lieutanant Farmer, one of the newbies transferred, Looked down at his console, and saw things he never needed to see; "Captain, I am detecting six Confederacy warships, with fighter escort, inbound toward the station."
"How long?"  Wainwright needed options to him, and he needed them now.
"Six hours, tops.  I cant tell what ship classes they are, at this range."
Wainwright made up his mind.  "Set us a course for Azati Prime, ASAP."  Wainwright was terriefied and confused at this whole situation.  God, I hope this isn't a joke...

"Captain Wainwright, what is your suggestion for a course of action?"  Captain Sharon Hiroshi, of the I.S.S Fearless, an Excelsior class crusier.  Apprehension gripped the room.
"I suggest we attempt to fight them off."  Captain Davidoff, of the I.S.S Victory, a Miranda class light crusier.  "We've got a Battlecrusier on our side-
"While they have numerical superiority."  Hiroshi argued  "More ships equals more missles, which means more ordinance they can burn us with.
"We've got the Interceptor grid system, we can take out those missles-"
"The Interceptor grid isnt perfect."  the stations co, Captain Marden; "They can intercept eighty percent of missles and torpedos.  Torpedos are rather iffy, because of their massive ECM systems."  Marden concluded.
Wainwright sighed.  "Look, the longer we squabble, the sooner the Confederate's get here and catch with our trousers down.  Now, I'm staying.  Will you two."
Hiroshi and Davidoff traded a loooked of resignation.  "You have the support of the Fearless."
Davidoff nodded.  "As of the Victory."  Then alarms blared throughout the station, a transmission heard in every ship and square inch of station:
"This is Captain Ambrose of the Confederate crusier Roaoake.  Surrender, or I will have to intiate deadly force."

"What the ****, they're three hours early."  Wainwright said as he entered the CIC, which doubles as a second bridge.
"Yes, sir.  However, they appear to be attacking in waves.  Three ships are in-system.  Two Constellations, an Excelsior, and the other wave consists of a Constiuation class Heavy Cruiser, and two Apollo Destroyer-Escorts."  Lt.cmdr Takashima reported.  "Good work.  Prepare to open fire, on my command."  Wainwright didnt want to constanly fight them at anything beyond knife fighting range, since interceptor grids could easily shoot down torpedos and archer anti-cap missles.  "Captain, they have fourty-eight fighters, plus their normal complement."
Wainwright had a pained looked.  They easily could provide the key to winning the fight.  Excalibur only had about 24 fighters on her own, Fearless 18, and Victory 35.  Plus the station.
"Catain, they're firing-"  The Shipp shook, as it took several phaser hits to sheilds.
Wainwright's jaw set in; "Return fire, all forward phaser batteries.  Excalibur fired six forward phasers, directed toward Roaoake.  The hits caused moderate damage.  Both warships exchanged missle and torpedo fire, several of the Excalibur's punched into the Roaoake, two torpedos striking the port nacelle.  Plasma gouted immediatly from the bussard collector.  Three torps did hit the Ambassador hard, but it at least had a lot more armoring.  Victory completly loaded forward batteries, as blue and yellow phaser fire met and lanced against eachother, a pair of torpedos colliding, fire traling out.  The Victory was on the losing side, as she didnt have the armor a Constellation class did.  A pair of torpedos got through the interceptor grid, and destroyed the Victory's main torpedo launcher.
Captain Davidoff looked around his bridge, which was in flames and ruins.  He ran to the console controls, and set his ship for ramming speed, his hands being burnt as he ran his fingers over the console, which was starting to spark.
Five seconds later the Victory rammed the Constellation it was fighting.  Both ships were annialated, a nacelle flying off and colliding with the other Constellation.  That ship was in ruins, too.  Azati Prime was designed to be able to fight off four Galaxy class Battleships, at the same time.  Fourteen torpedos smashed the rebel crusier, fire pouring out into space.
"Commander, Talos, this is  Captain Wainwright, surrender, your ship is-"  He loooked on, with grim horror, as the light crusier explosivly decompressed itself.  They would rathe die than be captured.  Excalibur violently shook, but she was winning.  Roaoake's bridge, CIC, and main weapon batteries were all disabled, as well as propulsion.  Fearless gave a broadside, phaser and missle fire smashhing part the battered crusier's stardrive.

"Captain, we've got problems.  Those other ships have arrived."  Then sparks flew in  the air, as the Excalibur withstood a direct fighter strike.  Phaser fire lanced into the Fearless's shields, as the Excelsior returned fire, a torpedo striking the Confederate heavy crusier, destroying the impulse drives.
"Captain, they're falling back."  Wainwright looked confussled, "Why?"
"I've got a Galaxy class Battleship inbound... it's the I.S.S Kentucky.  ETA is five minutes."
Wainwright let out a sigh of relief.  This was sheer luck.  They would not be so lucky next time.
