SCP Full Pack 2.0, Grammar check and suggestions.
Ok ppl, the 3.6.10 is coming (i hope :P) and i preparing the .exe installer and the pack itselft...

Well, in a moments i will upload a "bug-grammar check" version of the .exe installer, this .exe will have only 5 days life couting from now (is a trial version of Setup Factory, by now  :pimp:). is a 57MB installer, mostly because of the music.

I need, grammar check of every text in the installer, if someone whants to look how the installer handle to unzip a 2.2GB .zip file simulating to be the real "Freespace2.zip" of the pack, it will be good too, in my tests everything was fine.

But im worry about how the installer works in Vista... thats incluide the wv_player that in using to play a background music and sound.

And i also need a grammar correction of the readme file... thats easy, i will copy it here.

Freespace 2 SCP Pack v2.0, by ShivanSpS

What file i need to run for play?:
Use the shoutcut or the "Launcher.exe" don't try to run any other file directly.

I need to configure something?:
Not too much , the launcher already comes which all needed features enabled, the only that you may need to configure is your sound and video tabs. Mod tab and CVS too.

Sound Tab:
The recommended is “Generic Software” (OpenAL), the others one, like "Generic Hardware", may don't work correctly.

Video Tab:
No matter if you have an ATI or NVIDIA card, the best is to use OpenGL, the D3D Support is very weak and lack the newer effects.
The recommended resolution is 1024x768 at 32 bits depth.

Note: Be advised, there is not any direct AA filter support, but its works if you force it from the graphics card driver tools.

Selecting a CVS Build (executable file):
Press the "Browse" button, then go to your Freespace 2 folder, it should be "C:/games/freespace2", now you have in the list two executable files that come which my pack the CVS version is the 3.6.10 official, the last stable build that I found.
Well, you see two files: "fs2_open" and "fs2_open_debug" the "debug" is for debug and you only have to select this is something go wrong and someone in the SCP forums ask you to run it. Anyway, You always have to select the file whichout the "debug" of the name in this case "fs2_open", select it and press "Open".

Notice: Keep your CVS Updated!:
Run the Turey updater daily.
You may also find and manually download CVS Builds in ( http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,97.0.html )

The MOD tab:
This is the most important one, if you do something wrong here, you may miss all new graphics effects...

First of all, why the MOD tab is so important?
As karajorma say in the forums:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mods are something slightly different from features. Features are basically engine specific things like whether or not to turn on the specular lighting etc.

Mods on the other hand are which campaign you want to play. Since some mods use completely different ships etc from the original game the mod system allows you to pick where FS2 looks first when you start the game.
The advanced graphics live in the mediavps folder so you should tell the game to look there first  if you want to play the main FS2 campaign.
The FS1 port contains a redirect (in the mod.ini file) which says look in my folder first, then look in mediavps and only then look in the main folder.
Any other mods included should also have the same redirect."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, What I need to do which the mod tab?:
-If you wish to play FS2 SCP whitout any of the graphics upgrades, you must select nothing in the mod tab, just press "No MOD".
-If you wish to play which all graphics upgrades, you must select "Mediavps" as a mod.

If you wish to play other campaigns than the retail FS2 campaign, this pack come which:
-Fs1_Port v3.0.4 (this is the Freespace 1 MOD, if you select this you may play the retail FS1 campaign)
-DerelictSCP, a very good user/s made campaign, this take place a few years after the end of FS2 retail campaign.
-Transcend, other user/s made campaign.
-InfernoR1
-Sol: A History
-INF: Alliance
 And much more!

About selecting a campaign in the Campaign room:
Well the Freespace 2 Retail campaign will never going to disappear from your Campaign room, even if your have selected a Fs1_port mod, or Derelict, or anything, but that no mean that you should be able to play which it, so is important to know what campaign you way use when you are playing different mods, the Campaign, is not changed automatic...

Mod and selecting campaigns, for example:
-MediaVPs and No MOD: "Freespace 2 Campaign" (The retail FS2 campaign)
-Fs1_port: "The Main Freespace Campain" (retail FS1), "Silent Threat" (retail campaign expansion pack for fs1), "Awakenings" (a user/s created campaign), "Desteny of Peace" (another user/s created campaign).
-DerelictSCP: "Derelict"
-Transcend: "Transcend"
-InfernoR1: "Inferno: GTVA Charter" XX
-Sol: A History: "Sol 2335", "Sol 2340", "Sol 2357", "Sol 2372"

Just check what new campaign name appear in the "Campaign room", after selecting a mod.

About mv_adveffects.vp:
This is a additional effects file, that is not required for playing, its add some visual effects, but downgrade performance and uses too much memory, and in a plan to give a pack for every system, this file is included, but is not used, you may use it if you want, is your decision.

How-To Reactivate the mv_adveffects.vp:
This file is located in "MediaVps/mv_adveffects", to allow to be used the only you need to do is to move them from is current folder to the "MediaVPs" folder... if you wish to deactivate them again, just move them again to the "mv_adveffects" folder.

Pack by ShivanSpS, v2.0, include:
-Freespace 2 full install

Re: SCP Full Pack 2.0, Grammar check and suggestions.
Looked through the readme, and fixed anything I noticed. It's mostly spelling and grammar, but I also slipped in a couple of clarifications where I thought you were being ambiguous. There could well be some stuff still needing to be fixed (english is not my first language, either), and I'll readily admit that english punctuation has never been my strongest side, so that probably needs a going-over by someone more qualified. But if nothing else, it might save some time for the next guy. Anyway, here you go:

Freespace 2 SCP Pack v2.0, by ShivanSpS

Which file do I need to run to play?:
Use the shortcut or the "Launcher.exe" file, don't try to run any other file directly.

Do I need to configure anything?:
Not too much, the launcher already comes with all needed features enabled. The only launcher tabs that you may need to configure for basic play are the sound and video tabs. The MOD and CVS tabs will also need to be configured if you intend to use them.

Sound Tab:
The recommended option is “Generic Software” (OpenAL). The other ones, like "Generic Hardware", may not work correctly.

Video Tab:
No matter if you have an ATI or NVIDIA card, the best choice is to use OpenGL; the more recent SCP versions do not support D3D very well compared to OpenGL, if at all. The recommended resolution is 1024x768 at 32 bits colour depth.

Note: Be advised, there is not any direct AA filter support, but it works if you force it from the graphics card driver tools.

Selecting a CVS Build (executable file):
Press the "Browse" button, then go to your Freespace 2 folder (it should be "C:/games/freespace2"). In the list, you now have the two executable files that come which my pack; the CVS version is the 3.6.10 official, the latest stable build that I have found.
Well, you will see two files: "fs2_open" and "fs2_open_debug". The "debug" executable is intended for debugging efforts and you only have to select this if something goes wrong and someone in the SCP forum asks you to run it. Anyway, you always have to select the file without "debug" in the name, in this case "fs2_open". Select it and press "Open".

Re: SCP Full Pack 2.0, Grammar check and suggestions.
Ok, now for the installer. I'll take it screen by screen. Of course, the same disclaimer as above applies here as well - I may not catch everything.

Background:
Quote
Installer and Packed by ShivanSPS. This pack is free for all uses http://www.hard-light.net
I suggest replacing "Packed" with "Pack", as you're not saying it's packed by you but that the pack is by you. Might also want to seperate the HLP link from the text somehow, as it seems unrelated to the fact that the pack is free.

Welcome screen: No errors.

Pack details screen: No errors.

Folder selection screen:
Quote
Is extremely recomended that this pack will be installed on C:\Games
Missing "It" at the start, typo in "recommended", "for this pack to be" instead of "that this pack will be", "to" instead of "on" as that's the norm. Fixed version: "It is extremely recommended for this pack to be installed to C:\Games". The rest of the screen is good to go.

Shortcut screen: No errors.

Ready to Install screen: No errors.

And that's as far as I went, as I didn't want it to start cluttering my computer with folders I already have elsewhere.

Just a note: Before you distribute the pack, make sure to run the Installer, selecting the parts that you're including in the pack (With the exception of fsport, as the host is down.). You can then make sure that there aren't any conflicts between folder names and such, and it'll generate the text files that'll speed up updating.

I'm doing that...

there aren't any folder name conflict, but i moved some things, the other day i told you in the msn, i moved all fsport campaigns to the fsport mod folder, except the cardinal spear, who have models and files that may create conflicts, Awakenings, destiny of peace and the fs1 demo, the only files that they have are mission and voice files, so they work perfectly in the fsport folder whiout conflicts, and i run the installer just to get the text file. I know that updating don't going to work in this way, but i found unnecessary to have a mod folder for awakenings and dop for example, a lot of folders = a lot of confusion.... i no know what Goober5000 going to say about this... but we all going to have to agree that there is no way that some mission and audio files may conflict which the fsport ones...

My grammar fix:

Quote
Freespace 2 SCP Pack v2.0, by ShivanSpS

What do I click on to run this game?
Use the shortcut or the "Launcher.exe". "Fred2_Open" is the mission editor.

Do I need to configure anything?:
You may need to set up the sound and video tabs for optimal performance, and the mod tab if you wish to run a mod. The launcher already comes with the core features enabled.

Sound Tab:
Using the "Generic Software" setting is recommended. The "Generic Hardware" setting is known to have issues.

Video Tab:
Direct3D 8 support is very shaky and will soon be phased out. Use OpenGL instead. The recommended setting is 1024x768 at 32 bits color depth.

Note: Anti-aliasing is not configurable in the launcher. It must be set in your graphics card's configuration program.

Selecting a CVS Build (executable file):
Press the "Browse" button, then go to your Freespace 2 folder. As well as the official builds (fs2_open_3_6_9 and fred2_open_3_6_9), you will find a 3.6.10 CVS build (fs2_open_r and fred_2_open_r). These versions have more features and are overall more advanced than 3.6.9 but are less stable. Use with caution.

Updating FS2 executable builds:
Run Turey's updater daily.
You may also download new CVS builds at http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,97.0.html

The MOD tab:
This is is where you configure game mods.

This explanation of mods was written on the Hard Light Productions forums by a member called Karajorma:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mods are something slightly different from features. Features are basically engine specific things like whether or not to turn on the specular lighting etc.

Mods on the other hand are which campaign you want to play. Since some mods use completely different ships etc from the original game the mod system allows you to pick where FS2 looks first when you start the game.
The advanced graphics live in the mediavps folder so you should tell the game to look there first  if you want to play the main FS2 campaign.
The FS1 port contains a redirect (in the mod.ini file) which says look in my folder first, then look in mediavps and only then look in the main folder.
Any other mods included should also have the same redirect."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, What I need to do which the mod tab?:
-If you wish to play FS2 SCP without any of the graphics upgrades, just press "No MOD".
-If you wish to enable the new graphical features, you should select "mediavps" as a mod.

If you wish to play other campaigns than the retail FS2 campaign, this pack comes with several. Note that most mods will load the mediavps folder automatically.
-FSPort v3.0.4 (this is a port of the original Descent:FreeSpace to FS2)
-DerelictSCP, one of the best FreeSpace campaigns out there, Derelict takes place five years after the end of FS2.
-Transcend, another famous user-made campaign.
-Inferno Release 1, a well-known total conversion set decades after the end of FS2. Due to the age of this mod, it does not load the mediavps, and running with mediavps enabled is not recommended.
-Sol: A History, a mod based on Inferno Release 1, depicting what happened in the Sol system after contact with Earth was lost 32 years before the start of FS2.
-Inferno: Alliance, a more recent and advanced mod with the same overall storyline as Sol: A History.
 And much more!

About selecting a campaign in the Campaign room:
The original FreeSpace 2 campaign and any campaigns installed in the root data folder will always appear in the campaign room, no matter what mod is selected. If the mod you have selected is too different from the original game (Inferno Release 1 is a notable example), the original campaign will not work. Note that if you are in a campaign in a mod folder and you switch mods during the campaign, the game will no longer see the campaign you are in and you must select a different one.

The mods come with the following campaigns
-MediaVPs and No MOD: "Freespace 2 Campaign" (The retail FS2 campaign)
-FSPort: "The Main Freespace Campaign" (port of FS1), "Silent Threat" (port of the official expansion pack to FS1), "Awakenings" (a user-created campaign), "Desteny of Peace" (another user-created campaign).
-DerelictSCP: "Derelict"
-Transcend: "Transcend"
-Inferno Release 1: "Inferno: GTVA Chapter 1"

About mv_adveffects.vp:
This is an additional mediavp file that enables special high-quality effects for powerful systems. It consumes a great deal of memory and video card power and is only recommended for fast computers. If you have performance issues running adveffects, you should disable it. You can do so by creating a folder with any name other than "data" inside the mediavps folder, and cutting and pasting (not copying!) the adveffects file into it. To restore adveffects, you can copy it back into the root of the mediavps folder.
