I can't find Taylor's VPs..... which include those awesome Thruster glows....... can someone post a link please?

...more specifically the Shivan glows, I already have the Terran ones.

You have them in the media patches (or a quite similar version). The problem is that they are dds and the original thursters are jpg.

You have to wait till next BUILD release. Fsopen 3.6.9. loads jpg textures BEFORE dds ones even if they're in a lower priority place. See the VERY IMPORTANT INFO... in http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Command-Line_Reference#-mod

(AFAIK this behaviour has been already changed in Taylor's experimental builds. BUT I don't know if it's already updated to CVS, so you can test this build http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,48723.new.html#new).

    FYI, most of the troubles are caused by wrong mod installations which lead to either missing data or undesired cross-effects between them. Always follow the mod installation instructions and keep a clean FS2 installation as explained in the sticky threads. Two additional links about how the game handles game data:
  • If you think that you've discovered a bug, mantis it.
    Provide as much info as you can, and try to narrow it down. A lonely "FS2 doesn't work" is not a good report.

get them out of mp_710 effects and stick them in mediavps/data/effects and they'll override the softer-looking ones.

What about converting 'em to .jpg or .tga?

Oh, so just plopping them in the effects folder will override the .jpgs? Hmm, I'll try both methods.

there are replacements for the lavapool thrusters in mp710 effects as well

PLEASE READ WHAT I'VE POINTED.

You don't see mediavps patches new thrusters BECAUSE of the build behaviour. It doesn't matter if you put them in effects folder or wherever. In 3.6.9, dds always has lower priority than other formats.

You just need newer builds.

What build are you using? Are you sure that without extracting they don't work?

im using 3.6.9. and i believe things in the /mediavps/data overwrite things in the .vp's regardless of file precedence.

No, that is only the case if the file formats are the same.  A JPG in a VP will overwrite a DDS under data/ every time since JPGs are searched for before the DDS images are.

Newer builds have fixed that though, and now it looks for every file type in each location at the same time.
