Im really enjoying game.  Really amazing to say the least.  However im stuck at the mission where you have to scan the asteroid base but once i get even close, they say your clearance code is old and everyone fires on you and you die.  I have replayed the mission over and over and no matter what happens, same outcome.

The directives are avoid patrols, scan weapons, cargo, sensors but to scan you have to be close and it says don't get close to enemy ships, seems a bit retarded.

Anyone can shed some light on this mission?

If my memory works correctly, there's no particular trick to this mission, except the common one in most recon missions - speed. Find the extraction beacon, save it on the escort list, then re-direct all available energy to engines, target the relevant subsystems in the installation, get close to the asteroid base as fast as possible, scan the targets, head towards the extraction beacon as fast as possible, evading enemy fire. If you're fast enough, you should be able to complete the scans and be on your way towards the extraction point when the Raiders sends their dogs at you. That is, assuming the mission works correctly... which I will leave for others to solve if that is the case.

Wait for the extraction while evading enemies, and when the cavalry arrives, hit Alt+J.


If you're having hard time, you can also obviously try and lower the difficulty setting.

Thanks, i finally got it! the scanning bit is a bit tricky since you can only scan coming in at a certain direction, so i passed by the station systems like 5 times before it started scanning them.  I beat it! no bug, just stupidity on my part. Thanks for the quick response!

You also have to make sure that you have a clear view of your target, you can't scan it if it is behind something.

I hate this mission like i hate "giant in the fog" from FS2 and the one where you have to scan the Lucifer and also an entire shivan fleet. but at leat those could be done easy enough.

I'm really surprised to hear people call this mission difficult. I always thought it was straight forward. The one that always caused me problems was Showdown at the Pass.

Well, I think the difficulty level in this mission was good. As in, not the kind where you can solve quadratic equations in your head at the same time, but also not the kind that takes 16 tries to get through. It was just right. Thrilling but not frustrating. Though I was highly paranoid about how easily the raiders might detect my questionable status, since I had played PI before starting with TBP.

raider wars isn't very difficult, just the right amount to get a lot of fun out of it.
I always had problems with DoW, especially Part 2
