On many screenshots postet in several forums here I see awesome planets which I don“t have. Afaik these are not implemented in the actual mediavp (3.6.8)? Where can I download them? Can they be installed in a way to be shown in each mod/campaign?

I'm betting at least some of the backgrounds you've seen are from the BtRL demo release. You can get them by downloading that (worth it in its own right, it's excellent), but you should make sure to get permission from the BtRL team before using any of their art in your own missions.

<Cobra|> You play this mission too intelligently.

then, you will need to edit the Stars.tbl (its in your freespace/data/tables folder, just copy it to your mod/data/tables folder)

look for something like this:
$Bitmap:      dneb01

below those lines (But above the #end!) you must add something like this:

$bitmap:      Filename of a image that is in your mod/data/effects/ folder, the file must be jpg, tga, pcx, or dds, dds is recomended

Load the mod with fred, and presto, you have a new planet/nebula!

If you use lightspeeds nebulae as wel, use the stars.tbl in that VP otherwise, you will lose those backgrounds.

Oh, and by the way, you can find many free to use backgrounds here

Someone should do the V'Ger cloud.
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta
