Dirty liberal scientists undermining India's traditions!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6994415.stm

How *DARE* these atheist liberal communist muslim-loving homosexual scumbags dare claim that it was not constructed by Ram and his army of monkies!

These people erode the moral fiber of India by questioning the literal truth of the holy words of the Ramayana!

  Not sure what to say about this..........other than the usual :wtf:
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Considering many of the faithful in the United States are doing there damnedest to get Darwinism replaced by Divine Design or some nonsense in the education system, i can't really find this as humorous as you do.

Bah. Starslayer. You've gone and blown the punchline now. We were supposed to wait for loads of posts about how stupid the Indians were before revealing that Americans were no better. :D

How about pointing out how stupid religion itself is?  Would that help?

Not really. In fact it tends to be counter-productive.

Monkey Army eh ? Somebody had a senese of humour. If I were gonna start a religion, it would have to have a monkey army.

How could it be any other way ?

I think the most relevant question I can ask is this: Given enough typewriters and enough time, could the monkey army have written the Ramayana by themselves?

Another, perhaps even more important would be to determine if these monkeys could fly or not... so let us find out!

Quote
Hearing the words of Rama, Sugreeva with great valour, the commander of forces and the lion among monkeys gave orders to the monkeys accordingly. Then, all those troops of monkeys with great speed together rose up and quickly bounced from caves and mountain-tops. Thereafter Rama the virtuous man, treated respectfully by Sugreeva and Lakshmana, moved towards southern direction, along with the army.

At that time, Rama went surrounded by monkeys, looking like elephants, numbering in hundreds, hundreds of thousands and millions. That extensive army of monkeys followed Rama who was marching in the lead. All those monkeys maintained by Sugreeva were rejoicing with delight.

The monkeys, jumping overwhelmingly with roaring sound and jest fully playing musical instruments (like trumpets) marched towards southern direction. They marched on, eating good-smelling honeys and fruits and carrying large branches bearing clusters of blossoms in multitude. Wild monkeys would lift up and throw one another all of a sudden. Some others were hanging down and flying upwards. Some other monkeys were throwing down others.

Monkeys close to Rama were thus shouting, “To us, Ravana is worthy of killing and also the entire demons.”

Rishabha, Nila, and the courageous Kumuda along with many monkeys were clearing up the path ahead. Sugreeva the king of monkeys, Rama and Lakshmana the destroyers of enemies were moving in the centre along with many robust and terrible monkeys. The heroic monkey Satabali who was accompanied by hundreds of millions of monkeys, standing alone firmly, guarded the whole army of monkeys.

Woah, they apparently did fly. Ding dong, the witch is dead. By the way, I have just noticed that Ramayana was obviously inspirational to :v: when they were making FreeSpace series... I'll prove this to you by simple word replacement.

...The scary thing is, I don't think I need to replace the "monkey" with anything for it to be accurate.

Re: Dirty liberal scientists undermining India's traditions!
There are some similarties between this and the story of the Monkey god. Interesting traditional tales, but does it have anything to do with religion?

Was RAM the wicked witch of the east? If it was, it would have been a FLYING monkey army...

(i know west, but it helps with the story)

Re: Dirty liberal scientists undermining India's traditions!
Why is it so abhorrent that people would want to maintain a site of religious significance? It's a debate between maintaining an area of apparent cultural importance and industrial/economic progress, so let's not try to link it to something as utterly retarded as the American "Intelligent Design" problem. Apples and oranges.

Re: Dirty liberal scientists undermining India's traditions!
What is ridiculous is that a scientific reports conclusions on what made the bridge can be overturned by a bunch of superstitious nonsense.  That's what makes it like the Intelligent Design bollocks.

The actual bit about whether to build the canal or not is a completely different debate though. And that's less of a cut and dried matter. Natural or not I tend to agree that it does have religious significance and as such the matter of whether or not to make a canal there should take that into account. A suitable analogy is that even if we disproved the existence of God tomorrow that doesn't mean we should bulldoze Canterbury Cathedral just cause it's in the way of a proposed motorway.
