When I was looking at mobo's a couple months ago the
Asus Striker Extreme appeared to have a decent feature set.

Couple of reviews:

Course whether or not this fit's what you are doing, what other parts you've got
in mind.... is completely unknown as we have no other details about what you have
planned for the system.

Re: So which Motherboard is the best one?
Well heres what I have/bought so far:

NZXT Apollo case (came with 2 120mm fans, and I bought a third thermaltake fan for the back)
Cooler Master Extreme Power 650 watt PSU
OCZ Platinum revision 2 2 GB RAM Set
1 x 250 16MB Cache Seagate SATA 2 hard drive (i'll be buying a second later)
Cooler Master Hyper TX 2 Cooler
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound card (has firewire so im ok if theres no firewire on the mobo)
X850 Pro Video card

Whats left is:
Intel E2180 Processor  (which will be O/C'd to its max, about 2.8 ghz i suppose with the CM Cooler)
A P35 Motherboard
A DVD Burner with Lightscribe

Thats everything.

so I need a motherboard that can Overclock really good so i can get that freakin processor to its max!

So I'm thinking the Asus P5K-E Motherboard, and I'll eventually strip the cooling and replace it with uber cool/high performace cooling options (which will work better than Gigabyte's stock cooling, which is whats making me want get the DS4)
Besides, I love Black PCB's!

  • I will never leave.
Re: So which Motherboard is the best one?
I would throw all my weight behind the P5K, the regular one will do.  Make sure you get a newer revision though, and upgrade your firmware.  The P35 chipset had some nasty problems in its infancy.

MSI hasn't made a decent board since the K7N2-Delta (which, oddly enough, was their best board to date).  I know some people have trust with Gigabyte, but I don't have enough experience with them to say whether or not their hype is justified.

The best overclockers are the DFI P35 T2R (if you're really rich) and Abit IP35-E/IP35 (otherwise), but just about any board will get you to 2.8ghz without breaking a sweat. Get whatever is the cheapest or has the features/layout you want, as the P35 boards are all fairly similar.

That board is one of the worst values ever for the money. Not only is it ridiculously expensive at $300 ($400 when it came out), but there are $70 boards that consistently outperform it on both FSB and memory clocks.
